AutoCAD LT running slow - is it my computer spec?

Hi,

I recently bought a new PC and currently using the AutoCAD LT trial my computer appears to be struggling, which surprised me!

As far as I can tell the specs are more than adequate compared to the minimum required. I'd like to know whether my PC is simply not good enough to run CAD smoothly, or if it suggests there might be a different problem.

Drawing a polyline, with dynamic input, polar tracking and object snap turned off it is smooth. However, with all of these on, there is a 0.5-1 second lag on every click - very painful to use!

Attached are my specs, let me know if you need more info.

Thanks

Your LT version is....?
Your Windows version is....?

Is AutoCAD/LT using the Radeon Video card or something else?
Is your video card driver one from Autodesk (if there is one here) http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/syscert?id=18844534&siteID=123112

Use "GRAPHICSCONFIG" command and turn off the "Hardware Acceleration"

Hope this will help.

Hi thanks for your quick reply. Sorry for my slow one - I thought I would get an email notification but didn't!

It's AutoCAD LT 2017 version N.52.0.0

Windows 10 64 bit

AutoCAD is using the Radeon RX 460 graphics card, driver version 21.19.525.258, DirectX 11.

I've tried hardware acceleration on and off, didn't notice a significant difference either way.

The video card isn't listed on Autodesks certified or recommended list.

If that means it doesn't run smoothly then that's the answer. I was just surprised by that - I thought that AutoCAD LT should still be able to run smoothly with my hardware, even if my graphics card isn't one of the ones for which they've gone through certification process.

A few things to try:
https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Cursor...

Turn off LINEFADING and LINESMOOTING variables in LT2017
If you have them selected, uncheck the boxes for MAINTAIN VISUAL FIDELITY and MAINTAIN DRAWING SIZE in OPTIONS command's OPEN&SAVE tab.
Ensure SAVE is set to the default 2013dwg file format for the trial period testing.
Ensure all files are 20123dwg file format for the trial period testing.
Did you by chance invoke any "migration" tool when you installed LT2017? that may contribute to the slowness.

Where do you store files that you access? Just curious, doubt is has much to do with it all but you never know.

Thanks for all the help and input.

I had a play with some of the settings, and now am unable to recreate the original problem, which means everything is now working smoothly! Not sure exactly what fixed it!

Kind regards

It's an average hardware setup for an average cad user.

Thank you, this seemed to have actually remedied keyboard input lag for me. Doesn't make sense but must have come about when AutoCAD attempted to get fancy with visual menus / windows / fading.

Not something one would want to turn off, because it's really one of the few new features in more recent versions, but it did seem to make the difference for me. No more, entering keystrokes again and hitting space bar twice.
