autocad lt limitations

old software/hardware at its end, need something new, lt may be only viable option.

besides 3d. what other limitations do I have with lt?

can I use:

fields

tables

dynamic blocks

batch plotting or publishing (seem to remember page setups not available in lt)

express tools, etc

Fields. YES

Tables. YES

Dynamic Blocks. Yes (Cannot create, but can view Parametric constraints)

Batch Plotting / Publishing. YES. Pagesetups do work.

Express Tools. NO. Anything lisp related cannot be used.

However some Express Tools have now been built into LT. Polygonal viewports, Text2Mtext.

Just to add a couple 

3D viewing - yes - limited tools but possible

3D measuring - yes - limited tools but possible

Data extraction - no - but you can use attribute extraction with attributed blocks

Macro's - yes - LT can use diesel but no higher programming languages

Scripts - yes

Menu customization - yes

Might be worth downloading the trial version on your old hardware and exploring these limitations yourself with your own files, scripts and other 'must have' features.

Problem is, my old system is crapping it's pants.
Autocad 200 on win xp on old dell 510 laptop.

Got a project I need to finish asap and autocad gets really slow or dumps.

Lots of stuff in model space, 2D entities.
Many layouts with multiple view ports.

I think the simple tools will suffice as long as I can attext my attributed material list blocks.

And having some updated plotting options.

It sounds like your system is on it's last legs, Dean's suggestion of the LT trial sounds like a really good option, and might I also suggest it could be worth hanging onto your old tools and maybe giving the old laptop a really good clean out (software speaking) reduce all the clutter right back to just the absolute basics as far as programs are concerned, so that in a pinch you can always go back to a system that you know, and then run LT as a trial on the new computer, you even have the option to run a monthly subscription but it sounds to me like you will be happy running a newer version of LT. At a later date you can always decide to upgrade to the full version if there is anything that you really need.

Yes, I have a brand new computer sitting here with windows 10; just couldn't load my old software on it.
