AutoCAD LT 2023 - Hanging when editing text

I just purchased a new HP Envy laptop computer with intel 12th gen Core i7 chip and Nvidia Geforce RTX graphics, and 16 gig of RAM and 1TB harddrive and running Windows 11.  I am extremely surprised that when I am doing some very simple tasks like adding a leader and text that the program hangs and I have to wait a minute or two for it to return.  I used to have things like this with hatch sometimes.  I was very much hoping that the new computer with all this 'horsepower' would wiz through my use of AutoCAD which is completely ordinary.  Is this an issue with AutoCAD or my computer.  If it's a computer issue I need to act quickly.  If AutoCAD please advise.  Thank you!

Have you installed the 2023.1.1 Update yet? ABOUT command will confirm what you have installed. If not, get it from your Autodesk Account Page here https://manage.autodesk.com/cep/#products-services/updates
Restart your PC afterwards.

If that did not help... Set GFXDX12 variable to 0 (that's a zero) then restart AutoCAD/LT: reverting to DirectX11 fixes similar problems for most users.

Also consider turning off LINESMOOTHING and LINEFADING variables: if still no relief then start GRAPHICSCONFIG command and change the 2D Display Settings pulldown from "advanced mode" to one of the other choices.

If all else fails, then turn off Hardware Acceleration as a last resort, and test. Did that solve the problem? If yes,  start a support ticket through your subscription portal as explained here https://knowledge.autodesk.com/customer-service/account-management/users-software/support-options#:~....

If no, consider resetting LT2023 to defaults or even repair/reinstall.

If it continues, perhaps the issue is where you store your files and how you access them maybe?

Or one of these many other issues not noted above https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Graphi...

Thank you for your reply!

I changed the GFXDX12 variable to 0.  But didn't go any further with what you recommended.
I want to narrow down the issue for you and perhaps get more specific advice.  It seems that the hanging issue comes up most frequently when I am editing text...ie creating a leader, changing a multiline text etc.  The strange thing is that once I hit Esc and the cursor returns, and I make the edit, and try it again, it seems to not give me the problem...at least not immediately.  Can you advise me better with this more specific description of the problem?

thanks.

Alex

The 2023.1.1 update is a requirement, not optional. Get that done as explained in my first reply to you please, then come back if there is still an issue.

NOTE: if it's program related, you sharing a DWG file here explaining how to recreate the "hang" might be the next step.

If it's the hardware, HP Support for a guidance or a refund would be your follow-up steps.

I am pretty confident that I have the most current version.  I reinstalled the software when I got the new computer.  How can I see what version I am on?

ABOUT command will confirm what you have installed, you need to be at the 2023.1.1 level.

Other things to try after that include the following to remove anything you might have migrated from somewhere else

Hi. I still need some help.
The hanging problem seems to be most highly correlated to creating text or
leaders. This is causing at best a long delay (2 + minutes each time) at
worst a failure and shut down. The weird thing is that if it doesn't fail
(I hit escape and it returns after waiting) and it allows me to continue,
it does not seem to happen again (for a while) while using the same
commands and then it may happen again randomly.
PS: I do work for other architects so I can't remove things that came from
somewhere else.
I didn't have this problem on my old computer and nothing has changed other
than getting a newer more powerful computer.
I need help diagnosing this. I am wasting too much time.
Thank you.

So you completed a software reset and that did not help?
Then you also did a reinstall of the software and that did not help either?

Or did you skip over those suggestions from previous responses you received?

I am not clear on what you are asking.
I think I had to reinstall the software when I got the new computer. I
can try it again I suppose. For some background, I have a perpetual
license updated to 2023 version with my maintenance but I don't have
maintenance anymore as of a few months ago. (another story). So I am not
sure if that's an obstacle.
I don't know what a software reset is.
I also tried changing one of the settings per the first post.
I was not clear if my version is correct either. When I did "about"
command it didn't show in the format that you or one of the responses
indicated. Please advise.
Thank you.

Open a support case with Autodesk at this point, they will be able to get into your computer and figure it out for you. Here is how to do that: https://knowledge.autodesk.com/customer-service/account-management/users-software/support-options/we...
