AutoCAD LT 2017 - Polyline highlighting when selected

Seem to have a an issue in 2017 where polylines with width are not being highlighted when selected or moved. (the grips still appear when selected but the lines used to go fuzzy (for the want of a better word!)) See screenshot comparison with 2016.

Is there a setting that has not migrated properly or is this a bug?

Is HIGHLIGHT variable turned on? explained in HELP. Otherwise I cannot repeat the issue here in LT2017 but I did not migrate from an older version either:

Cheers for the reply. Did a bit of digging when you pointed out yours worked, tried a colleagues computer and on the face of it that seemed ok too.

Then realised I'm a bit old school so I have selectioneffect set to 0. Setting it to 1 fixes the polyline highlight issue but I prefer the dashed lines with selection effect off.

Tried setting colleagues machine to my settings and the same issue then occurs. So on the face of it something does appear to have changed between the versions.

I'm a user of SELECTIONEFFECT so that explains it.

Hello ed.perryman, and welcome to the Forums!

It sounds like this was just a settings issue.

If you think Dean's post solved the problem (as it appears it did), then please click Accept as Solution for his post.

Hi Steve, It's not a settings issue per se, the notable point that came out of Dean's post being that I work with selection effects turned off.

In 2016, this was not a problem, polylines with width had a visual indicator when they were selected, in 2017, this no longer happens.

Have you tried setting COMMANDPREVIEW to ON?

That should allow the 2017 highlighting to remain the same as in 2016.

Have you checked you Visual Effect settings?

OPTIONS

SELECTION TAB

At the Bottom Left is VISUAL EFFECT SETTINGS. Click on that. What are your settings?

This was looked at in LT2012. I assume the dialog boxes have stayed the same

Looks like they've moved / deleted the setting. This is LT2012

Just had a quick read up on the variable.

Is Hardware acceleration on or off?

Ah, interesting. Hardware acceleration is on in both versions, and both High quality geometry and Smooth line display are ticked.

If I untick High quality geometry in 2017, polylines then display correctly when selected.

Sounds like a graphics driver issue

Are they the same graphics card in both machines?

The graphics engine in 2017 was tweaked: so it's not quite the same as 2016.
other than trying to find a driver at Autodesk for 2017 I'm not sure there is much else you can do http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/syscert?id=18844534&siteID=123112

Well, the weird thing is I can get AutoCAD 2017 to display correctly (like 2016, showing the Plines as highlighted), but even with the exact same settings, AutoCAD LT 2017 will not...this should be possible...maybe I missed a setting somewhere.

Never mind, I did miss a setting.

With HQ Geometry turned off, the lines display correctly (fuzzy) in both 2017 and 2017 LT.

@ed_perryman

Did changing that setting work to get the highlighting to display correctly for you as well?

Please post back to let me know.

Hi Steve, yes unchecking HQ geometry "fixes" the issue. Not really a solution though as it worked o.k. in 2016 with it on. I'll wait and see if an updated driver is released at some point.

Cheers

Ed
