AUtoCAD 2018LT HP Designjet 500 42

Hi

New to the forum so please be gentle!

I've looked through some posts that are similar to my problem but I'm not sure that the solutions work for my issue.

I have a DesignJet 500 42" Plotter which I've had for some time, I'm running Windows 10 64bit and have drivers installed for the Plotter that work without issue from PDF's etc.

When I try and Plot from AutoCAD by selecting the Designjet I get the following error;

"Microsoft Print to PDF: This plotter configuration cannot be used for one of these reasons: the driver cannot be found, the device cannot be found, or the driver has a problem. The None plot device has been substituted"

What's odd is the fact that it doesn't say HP Designjet 500 42 by HP and uses the previous selection as part of the error? (The Microsoft Print to PDF does work by the way!)

I've read through some other topics, based on AutoCAD 2016 mainly,  which say to install a later driver for the Plotter, I have downloaded and tried this but this driver does not appear to work with my plotter (hpdj510wumglen) , not only with AutoCAD 2018 LT but Adobe and other applications that work with my existing driver?

Has anyone found an up to date solution to this please, it's frustrating having to PDF drawings and then plot them from Adobe!!

Any help appreciated.

Regards

Adrian

If you have ever got AutoCAD 2018 to print to that 500 directly, I'm surprised.

Are you running a 32-bit O/S?

I'd print to PDF, then print the PDF's to the printer. That is the standard around here anyway.

Hi

I’m running 64bit

I’m printing to PDF and then plotting but it’s frustrating not being able to plot directly!

I’ve looked at the topics above but none seem to offer a complete solution?

That’s for your input so far!

The solution is to purchase a new plotter: everything thing else is a workaround because your HP500 is just too old. Sorry, not what you wanted to hear.

Good luck.

I fear you may be correct, seems odds though that it works, perfectly, with every other piece of software I use and Windows 10 Jus Tony AutoCAD?

>>>...it works, perfectly, with every other piece of software...<<<
Hence the tip to plot to PDF, then use your PDF viewer to print to the HP500.

There are 3+years of discussions on the web (and these forums) about HP500s/800s and newer versions of AutoCAD/Windows rendering them useless. Help yourself to web searches if you are still intrigued by it all.

Hello

We have the same problem as you describe as of today. It Came out of the blue. Our machine is a Designjet T3500, we use the HPGL driver from the HP website. I have tried updating it to the 2017 version today whiteout luck.

All other Windows programs have no problem printing to this print queue

What? The plotter works fine with every other software and the problem as the plotter??? Your answer seems like  Trump tweet.

By the way I'm having the exact same problem with Acad 2019 and a perfectly fine, working, HP Designjet500.

Perhaps not the plotter(hardware) - i dont know,
but the DRIVER is the problem!
Depending of OS you need a driver who supports all needed features for your program(=Acadnnnn).

Did you try the links (and solutions in reply #2 https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/autocad-lt-forum/autocad-2018lt-hp-designjet-500-42/m-p/7467900#M1593...

"me too" replies to posts don't help anyone trying to understand what you tried so far, if anything. Try them now.

I've just been reading this thread to try to solve exactly the same problem - getting my Designjet 500 to run with the latest version of AutoCAD.  I've got it working!

Print server: Win Svr 2012 sharing HP Designjet 500 25 by HP v 8.10 data file v 2.1

My machine Win 10 x64 AutoCAD 2018.  Issure the PLOTTERMANAGER command, run Add Plotter Wizard, system printer, select your DJ500, *don't* import PC3 settings, away you go.

Hope this helps someone.

I am coming up against exactly the same problem with plotting to HP Designjet 500.

"it works with every other piece of software"  Comment from multiple users including myself.

Autodesk solution - Buy a new plotter.

wait a minute, we are paying top dollar for our new Subscriptions, with so say excellent benefits, but quite clearly its Autodesk's usual approach to its customers!

Its cheaper to but new CAD software than a large format printer!

Was that directly from Autodesk support? Because nobody from Autodesk has commented in this thread.

Hello, could you please describe what your exact configuration is that worked with the solution you proposed? OS version, Autocad vesion, connection method (usb, lan, shared from network pc?)? Thank you.
