AutoCAD 2017 - Drawing1 Persists on startup

Just this week I started to get Drawing1 coming up when I started AutoCADLT 2017 both by starting the application on the taskbar and by double clicking a file.  When double clicking I get both the clicked file and Drawing1.

I toggled the STARTUP system variable (it was set to 3) to different numbers but always got Drawing1.

I reinstalled AutoCAD LT 2017 (it didn't seem to take very long) but still get Drawing1 regardless of the STARTUP variable setting.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I've set 'STARTUP' to 3, and when I open ACAD the next couple of times there is no Drawing1, but when I come in the following day, up pops Drawing1 again and I check the STARTUP value and it is back to 0.

How do I get it to stay at 0?

Use every time the same way to start the program (the same Profile), if still a problem:

Thats not an Autodesk issue, thats unusual.

Ask your IT guy whats going on.

The information like Startup stores in the registry and it sounds sometimes this part of registry overrides with old values.

Thank you.  That worked!  A simple system variable! Set 'STARTUP' to "2"!! YES!! It's always the "one-time" settings that mess me up!  They're the most forgotten, especially when you leap-frog from acad ver 13 to acad ver 2021!  YIKES.   Talk about learning curves!

Thank you pvvinay. I was having this issue and it resolved it for me. I am using AutoCAD 2022 Architecture if that matters. I know the OP is asking about AutoCAD LT but these settings should be similar.

STARTUP set at 2
STARTMODE set at 0
under OPTIONS - files tab > template settings > Default Template File Name for QNEW > removed (later shows as "none")

I'm definitely a few years late to the party, but just ran into this issue in 2022.. It's strange, in cleaning up and removing older versions of acad, I somehow broke my 2022, regardless of my STARTUP variable.

Oddly enough, if I used '2' as my startup value, the ribbon wouldn't load, but the startup would. (The option to toggle the ribbon wasn't present, but that could be a default behavior as the ribbon hasn't a reason to be active yet, anyways).

Also, the UI redraw seemed to chug along using some interesting window 7 "aero" graphics to load up the command line and tabs, not the newer slick gray ones that I've seen 2021+ have (I should note I'm on Windows 10, here).

Additionally, all of my pinned, but collapsible side menus (Layers & Properties on the left, and Xref's on the right) would auto-populate and not collapse until I hovered over them indicating that acad needs a "mouse off" flag to dismiss the menus.

Very interesting indeed, I never had the Design Centre open, either and I checked my default template setting (which were empty), so I'm not entirely sure which template acad wanted to open.

My current fix. Leave 2022, and download 2023. I'm not sure why, but some underlying code seems to have mended itself (or hasn't been broken by me yet :p). Note to self: Leave 2022 until 2024 is ready.

Joking aside, if anyone else has a workaround for future users, or possibly me next year it would be appreciated! (I could clear all my settings with the "great reset", but I'm trying not to do that as reconfiguring everything takes a decent amount of time, but that sounds like a "me" problem!).

now got the same issue after installing the latest Autodesk update for LT2020. Startup has always been set to 3 & has always taken me to

PGlover_0-1666879288623.png

on first startup, now it's opening drawing1.dwg on it's own. No file is specified for Qnew, so it's not that. Any other bright ideas???

If you have design center open on looking at blocks then it will open Drawing1.dwg regardless of your STARTUP variable setting. Close design center before closing AutoCAD, should fix it.
