Accuracy problem

Hello

When I draw a line or a box at 100mm etc, I then check the line or box measurement with the measure tool and it reads 99.100973567 or similar figures. Obviously I do not type this in.

How do I reset this so that I when I type 100 the line is drawn at 100mm?

Thanks Ricky

When you type 100 that is exactly what you get, AutoCad doesn't have issues with accuracy. Maybe the problem is with the snap points you are using with the measure command.

Can you post a dwg file showing one of these 'short' lines and explain exactly the steps you are using first in creating the line and second when measuring it.

"I then check the line or box measurement with the measure tool and it reads 99.100973567"

Please use the command names (and options)!

It's possible if

a) your setting for object snapping is wrong

Make sure OSNAPCOORDS is set to 2 (or better to 1)

b) your current view is not parallel to your current UCS

The best way to check the line length is: Select the line and check the length by PropertiesPalette / Strg+1

For a simple 2D drawing, parallel to WCS X,Y plane:

You are in MODELspace

Command UCS world

Command PLAN world

while osnapcoord is set to 1 (or 2)

Draw a LINE

And:

You content should be not so far away from 0,0,0 wcs

While UCS =WCS/world

Use Command ID to check this!

A dwg can answer many questions in seconds..

I have had this happen before about ten years ago but not sure how a colleague at that time sorted it out.

The route I use is selecting the line symbol or box symbol then pressing the figures on the keyboard to the length I require and entering. When drawing a box, select the box symbol entering the two sets of figures to create the sides followed by the tab key and enter when done. Nothing out of the ordinary. Trying to re-create the fault but not succeeding. It may be apparent if I come back to work tomorrow. Thanks

Thanks I have carried out these tasks.

Just have to wait and see how it goes.

All appears fine but as I said the other person helping you tend to notice it the next day more.

Thanks for your help
