2024 LT, dealing with xref and unused layers

I have a rather large facility drawing with multiple layers (i.e. mechanical, electrical, parking lot striping...)

Is there a way to create a copy of this drawing but delete/remove layers that are unused?  And what if those layers are xref to another drawing?  I know that I can purge them, but how can I deal with the 25 or so x-ref layers to clean up my layer tree?

Hi,

unused layers: Purge

but "xref layers" are part of this external file, so you have to purge them in the original/external file.

For some case useful: ETRANSMIT

have a purge option

It would be no different from the top file since an XREF is also a DWG file: I would start purging and saving each XREF in the order it appears in upper files until you finish (and do the same) with the topmost file.

The ETRANSMIT command tip above is a good one especially if you want to create a separate package (aka you need to make a copy).
