Zooming Model Space in Viewport cannot change centerpoint

Please excuse the subject line.  I could not find a succinct description of my issue.  This issue just began this week.  I suspect I opened a third party DWG that changed a system variable.  I use the System Variable Monitor, but I did not receive any alerts.

Here's the problem.  I can unlock a viewport.  I can switch to model space.  When I try to zoom out from here, and zoom in over there, it doesn't work.

I can only zoom straight out, and then zoom straight back in.  If I hold down the CTRL or SHIFT key, I get the same result.  Straight out and straight back.  ???

" To be honest the only thing I can think of is that PERSPECTIVE is turned on as was suggested earlier. "

The PERSPECTIVE System Variable is to "0".

Alright, let's take this down a notch and get back to the subject at hand. Again, this is a forum for us to help one another.  No more fighting.  "System variable, system setting, drawing variable. . .blah, blah, blah."  At this point it doesn't matter.  Now let's all hold hands and sing Kumbaya.  There are far worse and bigger issues we, as humans, can disagree about.

Now. . .The YouTube video posted explains the issue quite clear.  Is it possible for you, @Rudy.Reavis, to post that same drawing here.  I want to see if it happens for me.  If it does, then we know it's a setting in the drawing.  If it doesn't, then we know it's a setting on your system.    Also, I see you have your software customized.  As a last, last resort, would you be willing to reset the software to default settings to see if it works?

Of course I was defensive.  I had to defend myself.  You fired shots in your first reply.

Your perceived tone of that response and my others is all on you. There was absolutely no mal intent on my part. Reread my posts with that in mind. You overreacted in an inappropriate way and got edited by an admin. That was just intended as advice to correct an inaccurate assumption of which there are several that you made.

My definition of System Variables is obviously different from yours.

As to your opinion on terminology, if the same word describes two entirely different things, there HAS to ba a way to distinguish them.

You have offered nothing productive to the question posed in this thread.

Then why did several others agree with me?

Another "unhelpful" post with additional information.

Unfortunately, I am in a very secure environment.  I am not able to share files, nor reset AutoCAD.  Starting in SAFEMODE, didn't make a difference.  i am not inclined to perform a full reset of AutoCAD.

As I have previously mentioned

  • I also compared the Startup Suite for AutoCAD 2025 to the Startup Suite for AutoCAD 2024.  The Suites and loaded apps are identical.
  • PERSPECTIVE is set to "0".
  • There are no other objects in the drawing seen in the second video, captured in landscape mode besides the circles centered on the origin.

Running in SAFEMODE did not make a difference.

PERSPECTIVE is "0" in Model Space and within the Viewport Model Space.

Please see message #47 for a couple more suggestions to try.

Sharing the file wouldn't reveal anything if it is happening on all files. Do the test yourself and open the file on another computer in you office to see if the same behavior exists.

Reinstalling AutoCAD may be the only option left if you cannot reset it.
