Zoom Extents goes out too far

When I click on zoom extents, or go to insert a view in Layout, AutoCAD zooms out excessively to what seems like a predefined area.  In looking for a solution, I've checked that I don't have hidden layers, turned off layers, and there is nothing in the drawing that would warrant zooming out that much.  I've done an erase all and removed the objects that I want and it still zooms to an extreme.  Don't know what else to try or look for.  Any help is appreciated.

  • CTRL + A then ERASE ? You say you did it...
  • Using LIMITS to redefine them because they act on ZOOM ALL (i.e. different from ZOOM ET )
  • About the objects that are lost in space, we'd better have a look if you can't get them... it is often easy to find

De you see the Coords ? I always show them (with the hamburger) ...

Does this happen on a particular dwg or all dwgs?  If only on a specific dwg, could you share that dwg with all xrefs ?

@paullimapa

It's been on every drawing since I updated to 2025.  I've never had it do this since I started with 2015.

-I just tried it on the default template acad.dwt .   There the zoom extent worked properly.  I am not able to find anything on my drawings that is that far out.  I've zoomed out further, and tried to select what looks like empty space and nothing is getting selected.

Just to eliminate a plugin doing this start AutoCAD 2025 in safemode and then open a dwg to see if the zoom problem occurs

Another possibility since this problem only occurs with 2025 and not the previous versions it could be a graphics display issue though not as likely. To test first set Gfxdx12 to 0 and restart AutoCAD. If zoom problem still occurs enter GraphicsConfig command and change 2d Display settings to another selection. If problem still persists disable Hardware Acceleration. If none of those settings make a difference set everything back to their initial value

Share that DWG file here please: we are all running 2025.

I started deleting parts of my template and have found that a dynamic block is the culprit.  I went into BEDIT but I'm not seeing an item that is excessively far out to zoom to.  There are 170 item not in current space.  I'm not sure what that means or how to get rid of them. I've attached it here if anyone would like to try a stab at it.

Thank you for the DWG file: your issue is only present in AutoCAD2025. It does not exist here in AutoCAD 2023-2024 when tested here at all.

Are you committed to only using the 2025 year version for a reason (an updated add-in or 3rd party must-have tool)?

No particular reason other than to use latest tech, lol.  Guess I'll have to wait and see if they make an update later.

There is an update out now (I have it), so that's not it yet.

In the meantime... Here is how to open a support case with Autodesk if you are on subscription to seek out Autodesk Support's help, maybe they know something of a workaround that we do not ahead of a future update:

I'm having the same issue.  If I open the dwg in 2024 it works fine, when I open it in 2025 and do a zoom extents it goes out way too far.

Finaly found out it was a block I had in the drawing. There was one control
vertex of a spline that was excessively far out. Not fun finding.

I have also encountered this problem and true to the previous post - a hatched block (polyline bound) was causing the zoom extent to go wildly beyond an 'expected' zoom level.

A correction (removing the polyline) solved the zoom level - but my question would be, why this drawing opened in LT 2024 does not behave the same..?

Is there a function/variable/setting difference between the two versions..?

Hi,

it's the same and no setting about zoom,

but depending of hatch and with much guessing about your drawing content:

Check your HPMAXLINES setting on both versions.

Is it set  higher in your 2024?

Share this original file and we can take a look.

HPMAXLINES set the same in both versions @100000

File attached.
It has a hatched logo for our customer and the entity causing the issue is related to the letter 'O', more specifically the 'SPLINE' that encloses the hatch? - see screenshot.

Deleting the outer spline first, then the inner spline corrects the issue and maintains the letter, as intended.

Why it would act differently between 2024>2025 baffles me!

Okay, no Polyline, in this sample, it's a spline

1. You found a bug

2. You are not the first

3. Your product is not up2date

4 install the latest update and try it again!

As I said. Your product is not up2date, unless you install 2025.1, which should fix this bug.

2025.1 is the current product version, not 2025.0.1
