Why do side docked palettes change height between sessions?

I keep having to resize my docked palettes every time I start a new AutoCAD session.  Why do they not stay where they were when I last closed AutoCAD?

It is in the order of how ACAD loads the Palettes, you can not controle it, if i am right.

(I guess "height" means the postions like "(doecked) LayerpropertiesPalette" is above the (docked) External Reference Palette" => The docked Position)

Both palettes have a common border that moves significantly higher in the AutoCAD window.  The Properties palette gets shorter and the Sheet Set Manager palette gets taller.  Both heights are different than when the last AutoCAD session was closed.

Hi,

Type in the command LOCKUI and set it "15".

Now open a new session of AutoCAD. Does the issue still persist?

In what I think is a related issue, the palettes will change position.  Upon reopening AutoCAD the SSM palette will be put above the Properties palette every now and then.

Not sure you can ever fix that.

Are you on one monitor or two? Most users with one monitor set palettes to autohide, with two monitors these are moved to the other monitor and left open and undocked. Both ought to help with your palette sizing issue.

I have two 32" 4K monitors.  I keep all of AutoCAD's stuff on one and dock what I use without using auto-hide.  I have plenty of room for that and it speeds up my workflow to not need to look over to the other monitor, move the mouse over to the palette and/or open the palette and then select or read what I need.  The mouse movement distance is cut at least in half by keeping palettes I use adjacent to the drawing area.  It reduces the time required of each palette selection by about 2X.  Auto-hide requires a slight wait as the palette is re-displayed and I reacquire a visual on the content I need.  That delay is avoided giving me an additional reduction in time required.

How long has LOCKUI been around?  I've been using AutoCAD since 1990 and I don't remember ever knowing that one. (I have forgotten quite a bit over the years... I'm getting old!)

That seems to have solved the problem.  I tried several cycles closing and opening AutoCAD and I did not notice any changes.

I thought it came with with the CUI files, in 2006

Very likely.  I always thought Workspace Settings was supposed to keep everything as you left it in a particular workspace.  There is no checkbox in the Workspace Settings to toggle this but it seems there should be.

The "Lock UI" interface display toggle (for display in the Status Bar) is in the customization menu at the bottom right corner of the AutoCAD interface 😳 who knew? (probably many 😁)

Today the SSM palette is taller.  LOCKUI is still 15 so I cannot resize the palette until I unlock it.

So, today the locked ui resized itself.  strange.
