My work needs to design machine spare parts. For to accelerate the spare parts design, I want to buy 3d scanners for reverse engineering. Design new parts based on 3D scanning.

I have not found the scans to come together with the precision that is claimed in the product specs. A single scan can look perfect, but when each additional scan is added, the discrepancies start to show up. Point clouds are great for BIM and civil projects, but I would personally not trust an .rcp for something like machined parts. The only types of things I would be comfortable using from a scan for machined parts, could just as easily be taken from a picture.
