When printing to PDF how do I make white letters on a black hatched background show up?

When printing to PDF how do I make white letters on a black hatched background show up?  I have tried everything I can think of , but cannot make it work.

You can change the text object color to true color (255,255,255) instead of white.

Or even just index color 255 would be essentially indistinguishable from truly white, especially on a black background.

I think that rather trying to print white on black that you leave the "letters" out of the hatch by creating a boundary where the letters should be.
