What is "Das.Local.exe" and why does it choke AutoCAD 2021 when I switch drawings?

Why does the file's property window have no details of what it is? It has an Autodesk signature so it's yours. It's in C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2021\Design Automation\Bin

Why does it lock up AutoCAD when I switch drawings?

Why does it access the internet when I switch drawings?

Can I remove it without crashing AutoCAD?

What even is it?

To answer part of my own question - renaming the file stops it but don't so it while AutoCAD is running unless you like runaway CPUs. It does fix the problem with it slowing down AutoCAD. Still NFI what it actually is.

Here's tip: I'm running a VPN, it didn't show up in Fiddler. If you are using a weird port then it will tunnel into weird places. The Internet works in mysterious ways. If you do weird stuff, expect weird results.

Also, increasing editing time on these posts would stop this kind of clutter.

So, yeah don't rename that exe unless you want to discover why apps should check for things and not make blind assumptions sending the CPU into a tight loop. This is a 6-core i9, so 12 threads. Well done.

From an email from Autodesk support, this worked for me ...

suggest uninstalling the “AutoCAD Save to Web and Mobile” feature from Control Panels (Add/Remove program….)

But I am not sure if your issue is same as previously reported one…. If possible, on a test machine please try uninstalling “AutoCAD Save to Web and Mobile” and test your issue.

Hi, I have been having the same problems with DAS LOCAL and it stops me from saving my drawings. I have now Blocked it in my Virus software and that seems to be working, time will tell though!

I have a user that routinely receives this error.  For them, it seems to happen randomly and not really affecting cad, other than annoying the user.

Reinstall of ACA 2021 did not correct the problem

We too are getting this error "Das.Local.exe has stopped working, Please close the program." in our Citrix environment, even after uninstalling the mentioned “AutoCAD Save to Web and Mobile” feature. Any other suggestions as my userbase is getting annoyed.

Hi @CADbloke, have you had any luck in resolving this issue? All workstations I manage freeze up randomly with DAS.local.exe running in the background, uninstalling Save to web/ mobile does nothing, same with resetting user profile (suggested by our integrator).

AutoCAD Electrical 2021, installed using custom deployment, though created using the official tool.

I've done some digging, the components itself seems to be part (or core) of 'design automation system', when launched, it expects some form of input/ provides output locally over websocket so that may be why it appears to be connecting to internet, even though it's not.

I've also found what appear to be json config files for different actions the component can perform in appdata\Local\Autodesk\AutoCAD Electrical 2021\R24.0\enu\Das.Local\cu2ai5pc.ah5\Activities

Contents of some of those are pointing to another troublemaker, accoreconsole.exe, that one was also taking up system resources and running whenever AutoCAD froze up, though this one apparently can be renamed without issue.

I reset my profile to default and started again. No idea what it was in the profile that broke it, probably something to do with printing -  I have AutoCAD to be very fragile in the printing department.
