Viewports zooming to extents

This bug has been in autocad for years. The zoom extents bug on sheets where viewports (even locked ones) suddenly zoom to extents. Everything I've seen say the devs can't reproduce this. Here's how. Pick a sheet with multiple viewports in it. Zoom into one of them. Go to model space. Go back to the sheet and before you zoom out, start a command. Any command. Now while the command is active, zoom out with the mouse wheel. Any viewport not visible when you switched back to the sheet, will now be zoomed to extents. Fix this please.

I followed your directions, and did not get the result you describe [in Acad 2024].  Can you make a video demonstration, so we can see exactly what you're doing?

Does it still happen if you lock all the Viewports?

In any case, this is a User Forum, and no one here can fix it for you -- we're just other Users like you, with minimal oversight by Autodesk employees, but not those who could do anything about it.  Go to the >Product Feedback Page<.

Do all your VPs have north orientation the same? Do any of your VPs have north direction at an angle?

@mlfgale Never seen that here through AutOCAD2024 in our offices: but we do lock our viewports and ensure UCSFOLLOW is actively turned off in both modelspace and inside each viewport all the time.

But if you believe you have a "bug", then be proactive and open a support case with Autodesk if you are on subscription to seek out Autodesk Support's help:

Well you are not alone.  C3D 2022.

Viewports locked, ucsfollows=0

I second fix this.

how do you know it's zooming?

Are you seeing a different amount of modelspace?

Is the zoom factor in Properties changing?
Or is it simply that the text and labels change size?

Something else? Show us in a video with the full program window displayed when you get a chance.

I know it is zooming because I see a lot more of the model space in the viewport window.  I'm talking 50 feet changing to mile.  Viewport Scale of 1" = 100' gets set to custom.  This is not a matter of text, label, point and block size changing.

This is not something I can duplicate and produce a video.  Maybe multiple monitors.  Maybe switching from CAD to Chrome.  The "workaround" is to create named view for the viewports.  That way there is a record.  But it increases the work load, breaks up the flow.

If CAD is doing this what else is it doing?  Can we rely on the numbers it is generating or is it subtly changing other things?

Sadly if you cannot replicate it on demand (and no one here can either) then a cause/trigger has to be established first for a fix to be found.

How would you like to proceed here with us just-like-you end-users (while you wait for someone to offer another thing to try or another workaround)?

It is just another ACAD gotcha.

If I deduce what triggers it in my billable day to day I'll post what sets it off.

The "all VP zoom extents even when locked" bug happens to me a couple times per year for at least the last 10 years.  2 weeks ago i was able to copy the recent command line text immediately after it happened.  I'm not sure if anything here gives a clue but it's worth a shot.

You showing (just a part of) the logfile with non-native commands (MVP and VV*) and Crashs inside,

I think it could be a hint in your case, but for a detection of a generall program issue - it is completely  useless.

* so only YOU can know what happen inside these (for us unknown) functions.

But your CMDECHO was ON, so we can see a part of what happen inside..

and there is a ZOOM 0.99x

This is not Zoom-Extents, it is just "Zoom a bit more out"

Do you know more about this?

whether this has anything to do with the problem or not: You should check your custom stuff, there is one or more things not well programmed.
