Viewport scale

Using AutoCad Lt. 2021 on Windows 10.

When I zoom in on model view port to select a dimension point, the scale is lost and I have to rescale the viewport.   The paper space view port is definitely 'Locked', yet the scale changes when I zoom in.  Is there a system variable that may control this?   Any suggestions for solution?

Hi,

NO ... it can not be happened !!! if your paper space VP is really locked , the VP scale wouldn't be changed if you pick inside it . make sure that your VP is locked by :

  • select your VP then press Ctrl+1 , check from Properties dialog that you select a VP NOT a rectangle and from Misc tab check if Display locked = Yes
  • from Status bar check the Lock icon = Blue .

Right-click directly on your viewport and from the shortcut menu, you’ll have the option to lock it.

I’m quite familiar with the command you mentioned, but it does not work. The VP shows to be locked, but when I go into model view, and zoom in to lock in on a dimension point, the scale is lost.

FYI, if you are locking the viewport in the Layer Properties Manager then the viewport is NOT locked. You will need to use your mouse. Click directly on the border of your viewport then select DISPLAY LOCKED=>YES.

What does the above statement mean? Please explain 'go into model view' using a detailed description. Please explain 'to lock in on a dimension point' using a detailed description. Apparently there's a communication breakdown and can help by clearing it up. Thank you for understanding.

When I am in a plot file, and in the paper view, when I click to the model view and zoom into the viewport to lock on a dimension point, then zoom out, the scale changes.
Hopefully, this explains, but if not, let me know.

Hi,

when you are in paperspace and have the viewport locked and want to edit the model space element then select the viewport and type in the command "VPMAX" and to return back the paper space type in "VPMIN". Does the viewport scale still change now?

I tried your suggestion. When I click on viewport, type in VPMAX, and go into model drawing and add dimensions then type in VPMIN. When it returns to paper space, the viewport is blank with no image and is black.

Hi,

We can help you out only if we have anything (like screenshot or screen record using Autodesk screencast) to see what is going on in your end. Else it would be difficult for us to provide a definite solution to your problem.

What is a dimension point? How do you create a dimension point? Please upload a screenshot of a dimension point.
