Is there a way to control where my viewport is looking at? other than by panning inside of it?
I'd like it to be focused at point xyz in model (or defined space). This is so that when I copy thr viewport to the next layout I can just adjust its focus a 100 feet over for the next floor plan..
I have a 100 floor plans and when I publish them in PDF and scroll down each one is off a tiny little
I know how to do this one viewport at a time manually but it takes forever... Is there not some kind of a fast workaround?
Thanks!

Once you have one viewport set and then copy that with another layout enter the new viewport and use the -pan command, with ortho on pick and pull in the right direction and type 100', hit enter.

If something I wrote can be interpreted two ways, and one of the ways makes you sad or angry, I meant the other one.

wow great new command I learned today!

I am wondering why AUTODESK doesn't provide a kind of "handle/point of a model space" that would be a property of a VP (for instance: top right corner or center ).
True there is no such apparent property of VP.
But definitely it must have been coded in the software - otherwise how the software itself determines the position of the viewed elements inside the VP.
So I would like to call AUTODESK, please make this property visible for users and editable.
That would be a good improvement.
Same time it doesn't seem a difficult job for programmer to switch the hidden property visible.

Hi,

Isn't this what you are looking for?

That is the property they are looking for but it isn't part of the viewport and is only visible once you have switched over to model space. You can see in your property window that the type is no selection. It would be nice for it to be made visible through the property of the actual viewport, even better if it could be modified through said property.

Hi,

This would mean that every time you do a PAN or ZOOM or ORBIT inside the viewport you always would need to leave the modelspace, change to paperspace and then select the viewport ... three clicks more.
But in case you want to select the viewport you can run this LISP statement to get the same values as I have shown in my previous screenshot:
(assoc 12 (entget (car (entsel))))

Yes this is exactly what I mean.

Dear Alfred,
Thanks to your answer I noticed that:
- there is a strange behaviour of these properties (X center / Y center)
(1) while I select the VP
>> X center / Y center - show the location of center of the VP border polyline,
>> You can edit, it will move the VP up/down or left/right,
>> (but it is not the functionality I am looking for)
but
(2) while I double-click the VP (let's say activate the model space from the layout page)
>> the X center / Y center - show totaly different values,
>> (these are probably the values that I'm looking for)
>> they change when using PAN or ZOOM

I am working with many viewports on the same sheet (analysing options) and sometimes I need to change many of them - it would be good to have possibility to type those (2) values into Property Manager cell for each VP.
So far I keep using PAN for each VP and that's killing me.

Hi,

Then you need to write your own tool, you might ask in any of these customization forums >>>there<<< (depending which of the API's best fit to your programming knowledge)

You can create a named view in MS and then insert that in PS. This was added a few releases ago.
