i HAVE THREE LAYOUTS THE VIEWCUBE IS VISIBLE IN THE TOP RIGHT CORNER OF LAYOUT1 AND LAYOUT2 .  LAYOUT3 THE CUBE IS NOT VISIBLE AND I UNABLE TO TURN IT ON.  OPTIONS SAY THAT IT SHOULD BE, AND DISPLAYVIEWCUBE2D OR DISPLAYVIEWCUBE3D ARE BOTH ON.  THE LAYOUT WAS COPIED FROM LAYOUT2

Hi @fpluce3,

Are you talking about a layout or do you mean a viewport? Paperspace layouts are not controlled by a VIEWCUBE, only modelspace is affected by the VIEWCUBE. When you double-click in a viewport you can see the VIEWCUBE because you are manipulating the modelspace from inside the viewport.

If LAYOUT3 includes a viewport, and when you click inside it you don't see the VIEWCUBE, try this:

  • While in the viewport without the VIEWCUBE, run the NAVSWHEEL command to start the steering wheel.  It will not appear.
  • Finish the steering wheel command by pressing enter.
  • Go to a different viewport or back to paperspace mode and activate the viewport again.
  • The VIEWCUBE, NAVBAR, and NAVSWHEEL should now work as expected.

Let me know if this trick works for you. If it doesn't, please upload the drawing and we can investigate further.

This is the viewcube in model space through the layout.  I have had to delete the veiwport and define a new one.  I was able to get it so the viewcube would show up in model space through the layout by making new templates in the current release of AM, but only in the "Layout1", I still have to delete the other viewports on layout2.... and make new ones.

Does this happen in every file or just this one? Have you audited the drawing to see if that fixes the issue? A few other things to try are purge all including reg apps (-purge, regapps) and run recover on the file.

[EDIT] What version of ACAD?

This happens on every file and I am running AutoCAD Mechanical 2020 with all updates.

Have not tried the purge, do not want to remove any preset layer that I have set.

do the audit to the template?

I would audit or recover the template and see if it has any errors. -PURGE, REGAPPS will remove any applications not being used by the template. You need to run purge from the command line to get to the REGAPPS option, which is why the "-" sign is in front of the command.

I would WBLOCK the template to another filename to test the file to see if it has the same issues. Use Design Center to insert the layers from the original template.

Here is an AUGI article on cleaning up problem drawings that has some more suggestions and explanations  https://www.augi.com/articles/detail/cleaning-up-autocad-drawings
