VIEWBASE command - can one change individual linetypes/weights/colours.

We are investigating the use of AutoCAD to detail drawings sheets with views placed from Inventor models using the VIEWBASE command.  So far it is all we want except for one issue - we would like to change linetypes/colours/weights of individual lines which are currently all dumped on one specific layer.

Is there a way to either change the attributes of these lines or to move them to a different layer where one can effect the changes that is required?  Typically this will be in a scenario where we have mechanical and structural components in the same 3D assembly and where some of these need to be shown as either references or just with a separate line weight or type to have specific attention directed to specific parts of the view.

Hi Jacob

If use VIEWBASE it creates a couple of layers... MD_Hidden and MD_Visible

Change the properties of these layers to what you need, along with the names.. then save this file as your template / dwt...

Hi,

You should see several new layers created when using VIEWBASE.

MDHIDDEN & MDVISIBLE are created with the basic orthogonal views.  MDANNOTATION & MDHATCHING with section and detail views. 

You can control the settings of those layers in the Layer Properties Manager.

I see that you are visiting as a new member to the AutoCAD forum. Welcome to the Autodesk Community!

 There does not exist a way to modify the properties of the individual entities from creating the views from Viewbase.  As others have mentioned, you are able to adjust setting of layers but not the objects on those layers.

If you really need to do this type of action then you will likely have to resort to using viewports instead to create your various views of hte geometry.

Just a minor expansion on @john.vellek's response.

You can control some of the elements in some of your VIEWBASE views (Section and Details Views) by getting familiar with the Drafting Styles & Standards settings.  These settings are accessible via the right-most panel on the Layout ribbon.

Have a look through those settings and let us know if that is what you wanted.  These along with Layer mods can afford a bunch of tweaks... if that's what you're after.

Thanks for all the replies, much appreciated.  It basically confirmed what I suspected, so we'll just have to live with these limitations.  The process I am trying to set up is to have only a single drawing file format (DWG) as an output of various 3D modeling inputs.  Our modeling currently is done in Inventor and Tekla and I want to change the structural to Advance Steel and keep my mechanical stuff in IV.  From a drawing detailing perspective, as much as I am an absolute fan of Inventor, the reality is that AutoCAD is still a better drawing sheet detailing package.  The DWG format is also easier to distribute as all engineers and draughts people can open and read it.

We are also implementing Windchill as a PLM package and its not very accepting of Tekla files, thus the move to Advance Steel.

So once again, thanks for the input and an awesome weekend for all of you.
