vector eps to dxf ???

This is a vector eps file. My client came in asking for a stencil. He needs a DXF file.

Not sure why he needs a stencil. Cant I just do the DXF file.

I have Adobe Illustrator _  just need some assistance of how to make it a DXF file for him ??

Open eps (or import?), saveas DXF.

Perhaps additional work in CAD programm is needed. The Question is: For what he want to use this dxf file 😉

He wants to ‘burnish/cut ?’ the image onto a wooden box … I know he has several cad/cutting machines.
I guess I was confused why he initially asked for a stencil ??
I probably should get a little more information.
Thank you for your assistance. I will give him the dxf both outline and solid and see where we go from there. I’ll be back in touch if i figure it out !!

Hi @Anonymous,

I see that you are visiting as a new member to the AutoCAD forum. Welcome to the Autodesk Community!

Adobe Illustrator can save natively to the DXF format.  Also, you can save as a DWG from Illustrator, make any changes in AutoCAD  and then perform a SAVEAS using DXF as the file type or you can also use the DXFOUT command.

We used your suggestion of using an AI native file and saved to DXF. I am still waiting to hear from client if it worked for them. I will contact them tomorrow and let you know results. Thank you very much, all - for you assistance.

Hi, I am also trying to convert .eps to .dxf for a vendor.  I read the post from @john.vellek that I can save from Adobe Illustrator directly as a .dxf but when I go into Adobe Illustrator, it does not give me that option.  HELP!!!

Hello Mr. Vellek,

In a reply from you in a 2 years old forum I read that you can make a DXF file from a EPS file.

A colleague from me ask me if I can change the EPS file he deliverd to make in to a DXF file.

I have already tried to make a PDF file from it to import it in Autocad.

Unfortunately when I do that, it is just an image without lines or layers.

I would like to hear or you can help me with this problem.

Only 1 file was valid, the other was empty...

I had to do a multi-step process to make it work

Convert the eps file to pdf with Adobe Acrobat

Use a program called aide pdf-to-dxf converter to get it into autocad, as the built-in pdf import failed pretty badly. The only objects created were hatches, so another step-

Open the dxf with AutoCAD and re-create the hatch boundaries. I left the hatches in on a layer called hatch, polyline boundaries are all on layer 0.

Save as a new dxf, and also as a dwg just in case.

See attached, & let us know if they work for you. You may need to do some edits in AutoCAD to get exactly what you need, but at least you have something to start with....

Thankyou for your quick response and the work you have done so far.

I just tried to open the files.

Unfortunately I can't open them both.

When I would open the dwg. I get the message that it is made in a more recent version (I work in AC 2017).

When I would open the dxf, I get the message, press enter to continue, after I did that, the file will not open.

Could you help me with this?
