Using Sheet Set Manager with Remotely Hosted Files

Hi,

I'm having a issue with using SSM with remotely hosted files. The way my company folder structure is setup, each discipline has a sub folder under the main project number, with a specific file tree for each discipline. Our network permissions are setup such that a user in one discipline has read access to the other discipline's files, but does not have write access. For example, a civil user can view and copy files from the landscape architecture folders, but cannot save over them. We are also transitioning to using Sheet Sets and fields for drawing indexes, title block info etc.

Here is my problem: I can set up a sheet set and add or create my civil sheets with no problem. I can also import layouts from other disciplines without issue. But when I go to rename and renumber the sheets for the other disciplines, I can't. progress to the next sheet. I'm not trying to rename the DWG file, or the layout tab name through SSM, just the "Number" and "Sheet Title" fields in SSM. Also, the DST file is hosted locally with my drawings, so there is no read/write issue there.

Is this just a limitation of Sheet Sets, or am I doing something wrong here?

I don't have your exact environment, but I was able to rename/number a read-only sheet.

What should happen is the following controls will disable:

  • Layout name
  • File name
  • File path
  • all "Rename options" at the bottom of the dialog

But you should be able to rename/renumber the sheet.

Sorry this doesn't help, but I thought I would share what I see...

If you do the same with a read-only file, does that work?

Hi @jallen_cph,

It is possible to zip up a portion of the sheet set and the files (they can be empty of content)? If so, please attach to a post and I will see if I can duplicate the action. I can try to set the "remote" files on a virtual drive and then disable the drive to see if the behavior changes.

Jon -  I did try setting up a sheet set with some test files, and was able to successfully change the number and sheet title for layouts on a read only drawing. Thanks for the suggestion.

John - One of my sheet sets is attached with a couple of the files (with all data removed).

We are having the same issue with 2020 now that we have a shared file system with multiple offices.   We use Peer Sync to have a common interface while having separate physical servers.  Sometime people make changes to the sheet set manager for automated fields, and when we print, its like none of the changes actually made it as if the person did no work.
