Hello all,
First time posting to these forums so apologies if I haven't provided enough information for someone to help with this query.
We've set files up at our company so that a master file can easily be used for each new project with minimal edits from other files (all layout tabs set up with correct specific layers shown, one drawing can be used and copied for projects with multiple floors, all blocks appear in drawing that can be deleted or added where necessary etc.)
I'm trying to use DATAEXTRATCTION to provide block counts that can then be shown in specific legends, hopefully providing a more accurate and quicker way to show quantities rather than 'manually' counting the blocks. I've currently set up a DATAEXTRACTION table to output quantities of blocks in the master drawing and then FIELDS that reference these quantities to show totals in the Legends.
My issue is that the table references a specific DATAEXTRACTION, so when this master file is used for a new project (across multiple floors for example) and the blocks quantities change, the extraction wizard must be run again to correct the quantities. Selecting the previous extraction as a template, selecting the new drawing and removing the old, and then inserting this new table will provide updated quantities, but the Legend FIELDS that reference this outdated table will no longer work and need to be updated (which will be much more time consuming and defeat half the purpose of setting this up).
Is there any way to update an existing DATAEXTRACTION table with a new EXTRACTION so the FIELDS will be properly referenced? Or maybe a different way of showing the quantities that can be more easily edited across various floors/projects? Each Layout Tab shows different views/quantities of blocks (e.g. Electrical Symbols on 1st Layout, Mechanical Symbols on 2nd Layout...) so using the DATEXTRACTION table to show quantities won't work.
I've attached some screenshots with a lot of information redacted for some reference but I can try and send through more info if there isn't enough.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Hi @Anonymous ,
I believe the numbers of block count can be updated by DATALINKUPDATE If the data extraction is linked between the table and the drawing unless you want to add a new blocks to the table.
If this is not working, could you share a sample file here so we can help to investigate further? thank you,
