Unload an Xref in a specific layout

Hi there,

I have a drawing file that has a number of Xrefs attached. Some Xrefs need to be unloaded just in some layouts. Is there any way to unload it that doesn't affect the whole file?

The problem when is for every change and issue we need to adjust the Xrefs to be loaded or not and this takes a lot of time. And also there are many Xrefs, so I cannot create a separate layer for each file to manage from VP freeze.

As you describe .... No , there is no way .

I suggest to clean all of your xrefs and the host dwg by Purge , Audit , and -Purge ( Regapps ) commands . Then follow this AKN article that guide you to check some settings that may help . >> Click <<

If you inserted the same XRef at multiple positions, e.g. having an XRef "A.dwg" used 3 times then you can erase them using the _DELETE command, but you can't unload them as this would remove all insertions from your file.

If you want to keep it's position, just hide it you can do this using layer freeze (or in layouts/viewports VP-Freeze)

Sorry I could not understand how inserting multiple times would help. I still will have them or not in layouts, except using different layers and freeze them, which will end up having a lot of layers with just one file in it.

This was not a suggestion, this was my assumption that you have an XRef inserted in multiple layouts.

If you would not have XRef "A" inserted more than one time in your dwg-file then you would have the option to unload it.

To have many layers is nothing bad, it helps to organize your drawing. A book with many pages is also not worse than a book with just a few pages.

Yes, you are right. We should change the protocol of our office to have a separate layer for each Xref file. Will think about it.

Put the xref on a separate layer, then do a viewport freeze for each layout that you want to "unload" it in.

It seems that you may have to come up with a different workflow for using XREFs. What you want is not possible and anyone suggesting is just showing a lack of understanding.

You can accomplish the same thing by having multiple references of the same file and layer management but why? It's a cumbersome workflow and creates many unnecessary layers.
