Undo does multiple steps (ctrl-z) and then I cannot redo

  I have had this issue several times and it has caused me many headaches, but no one else in my office can replicate this. The issue is I will be in a IDW, make a mistake such as add an incorrect line and my habit is to "ctrl-z" to undo. The problem is that this undoes multiple steps and I cannot redo them, reverting my drawing back several minutes. It this a bug? Setting? I am at a loss. I have searched numerous times in the past few weeks and the closest I can find to someone with a similar issue is the thread linked below and that does not have a real answer.

  Any help troubleshooting this will be appreciated. This occurs not on any specific or isolated idws and has been happening sporadically over the past few months, since we updated to Autodesk Inventor Professional 2017. Thank you in advance.

Ctl Z or U randomly set off a undo loop

It's impossible to troubleshoot random.

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

The issue, for me at lease, has thankfully been resolved. I am reasonably certain it had to do with a particular loaded LISP routine. Once unloaded it the random multiple Undo went away...

type undo, press enter, press down arrow, click on control, select one. This solved the problem for me! But it seems i have to do this in every drawing file I open not sure how to make this a standard across every file?

I have the same issue in Plant 3D 2025 and am unable to resolve it. I have changed the UNDO Control—One, Combine—No, and Auto—off, but nothing has been resolved. It is very frustrating! Please advise.

Hi,

the usual settings are UNDOCTL=53

what means

Auto=ON

Controle=ALL

Combine=Yes

Layer=Yes

not necessarily the most sensible setting, depending on your own wishes, but standard

1. Please change your settings this way.

2. If you know some steps to test your problem:

    Open a sample drawing, if possible - use a new file.

    Do what you have to do* to reproduce the situation until the last step (the undo command)

     If you used a new file, saveas the file and run Undo

     and if not solved:

     Press [F2], right click in Textscreen and Copy History (notepad  -CTRL+V, saveas MyProt1.txt

3. Share the .dwg and MyProt.txt file, share the *step-by-step explanation (commands/inputs) here.

Maybe we can find the problem.

Most often the problem is caused by the commands used (often additional programs),

these create undo marks, which causes a jump over many steps.

I recommend all new users to explore all of Edwin Prakoso's CADNOTES for AUTOCAD and AutoLISP when they're ready!

Best explanation I've ever seen of understanding the use of AutoCAD Layer 0, ByLayer and ByBlock.
