Unable to open DXF file in Autocad

Dxf created by AutoCAD 2018 cannot open by AutoCAD 2018, but can open by AutoCAD2014 with out problem.

Please help.

Besides of the file ... it would be great to know what happens when you try to open the DXF-file, what does the command-line report, any messages with which line(s) fail to be read? What happens when you try to insert it into a new file instead of opening it?

Here is error message.

Invalid or incomplete DXF input -- drawing discarded

Same error message for open or DXFIN.

But same DXF file can open by AutoCAD 2014. without problem.

Is that DWG-file created from AutoCAD or was it created or modified from a vertical product like AutoCAD Architecture/Civil3D/Mechanical ... or are components inserted from somewhere else?

If you start your AutoCAD 2018, start command _ABOUT ... which version information do you get? (a screenshot would be great so we know what version exactly you have).

When you open the DXF-file in AutoCAD 2014, is that plain/Vanilla AutoCAD? (command _ABOUT and a screenshot would help here too).

When you start command _AUDIT after you opened the DXF in AutoCAD 2014, do you get errors shown?

At least, if you could ZIP the DXF-file and upload the ZIP-file we can take a look to your file on our systems.

Hi,

my AutoCAD 2018 does not crash when opening your DXF, however, I get a message about a proxy object inside your DXF:

If you have the application for that proxy loaded in AutoCAD 2018 but not in 2014 (and I do not crash, because I do not have such an application loaded), it might be more this application that crashes your AutoCAD (being not able to evaluate this object correctly).

You might try to start AutoCAD 2018 with the /safemode switch (which disables loading any 3rd party tools) and see if AutoCAD crashes then again when opening this DXF.

Thank you for your feedback, great to know it's working that way.

So now it's up to you to find out which application is creating that proxy and ask the vendor of that application.
