Unable to edit block in place.

Hello firends.

I am using autocad 2017 and I am unable to edit block in place.

I am doing select block, right click and them "edit block in place."

It is selecting but its not going inside the block. Block is remain block un editable.

When I copy and explode it, its only one block I can modify like a normal drawing.

Please help.

Hi,

welcome @Anonymous.autodesk.com!

Does the option "Block Editor" work?

Is it a special type of block (dynamic block, XRef, ...)?

If it's specific to that block (while other block types can be modified) it might help to upload this drawing.

I suggest using BEDIT instead of REFEDIT.

But back to your complaint. So you select the block, then right-click and choose Edit Block in Place?

Like this?

refedit0.png

After you select this option, do you get this dialog?

When you create a block, make sure you have the box at the left bottom, "Open in block editor" checked.

Hi @Anonymous

please answer the questions . it is your problem, so be kind to  reply 🙂

We can start where the thread started 4 years ago:

Please select one blockreference, start command EXPLODE, read what ACAD say [F2]

and if you can read only the feedback "1 found",

then select one object by pick selection and start LIST command.

What is Acads answer? [F2]

Is the Block made up of only a nested other Block?  That's what the description in Message 1 sounds like [different User, so maybe your situation is different].  You should be able to tell from the second image in Message 3, which would have more than one entry in the Reference name: box -- the "outer" Block name and the "inner" nested one -- and you can pick the nested one to edit that.

Solution

This error is cause by the Dimension overrides.

To resolve the error

1. On the command line, enter BEDIT
2. Select the affected block.
3. In the Block Editor, enter DIM, to put you in Dimension mode.
4. Enter Override
5. When prompted, enter C to clear the overrides.
6. When prompted, enter All to select all objects.
7. Exit and save the block.
Now, the REFEDIT command can be used on the block.

Hi rahulpingale37,

thank you for sharing, but a dim override shouldn't be a problem and i can't reproduce it with my

sample block and program version.

There must be another thing too in your case, for example corrupt data or a special item, whatever.

I like to see and learn, please share one sample where we can see the problem (and where remove the dim override works as workaround).

And share your AutoCAD product version too, you can see it in ABOUT dialog.

Thank you in advance.

hi CADffm , when the command line shows this the DimOverride is useful

Application reference error: ACAD, to AcDbLineTableRecord
