Hi I am a new user with AutoCAD. After creating my 3D model using the 3D modeling workspace, I tried to save the drawing with different views with the use of layout tab. However, I am unable to create view from the layout tab from model space. instead it asked me to use inventor instead. what are the issue and how to rectify them?

What commands did you use to try and create a view from the Layout tab?

Could you share your 3d model dwg?

Hi, I went to the layout 1 tab and went to the layout tab. I clicked Base under the create view and chose from model space. I have also attached a simple model that I have created. @paullimapa

Are you not able to complete the steps like what’s shown in this video

Hi, yes I did the same steps but the software bring me to Inventor instead. Even though I selected From Model Space.

You only attached a picture (png). You should attach the 3d model (dwg).

But in either case, I think you missed something.

When I select Base from the Ribbon the drop down menu shows 2 options:

  • From Model Space (A logo)
  • From Inventor (I logo)

Every time I select From Model Space (A logo) I stay in AutoCAD. I'm not prompted to go into Inventor.

I've also attached the same 3d Model I created following the video tutorial step by step and again the Base From Model Space works and I'm not prompted to go into Inventor.

What version of AutoCAD are you running?  At command prompt enter command ABOUT then do a screen capture and share that here.

Here's another thought. Perhaps it's not really going to Inventor but it's requesting to install the needed Inventor component like this:

Once you complete the installation the window will change to this:

Now back in AutoCAD try running the Base > From Model Space command again.

Hi,  I downloaded the inventor interoperability, allowing me to place my 3D model onto my paper space in the Layout. Thank you so much for your assistance! @paullimapa
