Typographies in AutoCad. Support for .otf format!

Hi there,

Last week, I tried to install a font that I downloaded from a foundry using a font manager. The font installed correctly, and I could use it in my Adobe applications, but it didn’t appear in AutoCAD.

I asked Gemini what could be happening, and it told me that this is a very common issue with AutoCAD because it doesn't recognize the .otf (OpenType) format, even though it's widely used. AutoCAD requires fonts in the .ttf (TrueType) format.

I reached out to the foundry where I downloaded the font, and they sent me a link to an .otf to .ttf format converter. After converting the font, I added it to the font folder, and now it's available in AutoCAD.

My suggestion to the technical department is to add support for .ttf fonts.

Moreover, the single-line text option doesn't even allow you to change the font format! Why have two kinds of text input? We already know that multi-line text can handle a single line of text.

Thanks in advance,

Regards

Silvia

Single line text allows you to change the style, which is where the font is.

Single line text is AutoCAD's original text, from "way back when", and is maintained (I assume) for compatibility reasons.

It's not necessary to use it, but there may be cases where it has advantages.

But AutoCAD does support .OTF (OpenType) fonts. They just need to use TrueType, not PostScript-type outlines (definitions) and should use ANSI codepage. See:
