3d Connection mouse not working properly in autocad

I just bought the mouse, and in SketchUp it works great, but since I use so much AutoCAD, I wanted to use it there too, and it works fine if i do nothing, but when I type any command, instead of moving smoothly, it starts to lag, and as soon as I exit the command, i goes back to move smoothly. The normal mouse moves fine with or without commands. I don't know if I am doing something wrong, or not have something well installed.

I already have the latest drivers of the space mouse (10.9.1), I'm using AutoCAD 2022, and using windows

Hi @vivianaNC7FB

To troubleshoot, do this, in the following order:

  1. Shut down AutoCAD=>Restart
  2. Shut down computer=>Restart
  3. Mouse settings=>More=>About=>Check for Update=>If needed, Download and install the Update

Hello, thank you for the fast response, unfortunately, i already tried all that, and nothing resolved the problem. I know the problem is not the spacemouse, since I tried in another computer's AutoCAD, and works fine there

Shut down your computer, not just AutoCAD. What have you got to lose?

Did you customize any buttons? If you did, go back to the original settings:

Settings=>Advanced Settings=>Restore Defaults

(You'll loose all your customizations so you'll need to recreate them.)

Also, you may try right clicking on a Layout Tab=>Dock ABOVE Status Bar.

Yes, i did shutdown the computer,

and thank you for the suggestions, I did try those, but i don't think that they have anything to do with the problem i'm having, it's in the model space, and it's with the movements (pan, zoom etc) of the 3D CONNECTION SpaceMouse. For example i try to put down a dimension, the moment i do it, the mouse starts to lag, same with line, and every other command.

I use that mouse and have been using it for years.

Trust me, there's NO logic. Don't rely on I did this and I did that and don't give too much credibility to those who give logical explanations either. Throw all logic out the door.

Once in a blue moon, my customized buttons and radial menus won't work. No, the shortcuts/macros haven't been deleted, just unresponsive. So I shut down the program and if needed, the computer too. After restart, everything's back to normal. Logical reasons--forget about it. Shutting down is a lot easier vs. trying to figure it out. It's more time efficient, waaay more.

Your driver. Uninstall it! Go to 3D's website and download the latest driver. Install it. Sooner or later, you or 3D Connexion support, is gonna do that so you minus well jump the gun and do it yourself. No logic. No reasoning. If you want results, just do it.

I'm using AutoCAD 2024 and just updated the 3Dconnexion driver to 10.9.6.699. I've also loaded the 3DxAutoCAD.arx application in AutoCAD. For me, in the top left side of the 3Dconnexion window, it says "Default-S80". It should say "AutoCAD", but doesn't. I've customized the CadMouse Wireless side buttons to be "Zoom Ext" and Zoom Win" for AutoCAD, but neither work. This is another random bug...because, sometimes it does work!

Hi @Bob_Rhea_PCB

Your explanation is vague. Would it be possible to provide a more detailed explanation of the issue. Upload screenshots to support your description.

Here's a guess....

The device is Program Sensitive. That means the top left program will vary based on where your cursor is 'active.' If you have multiple programs open, then the program shown in top left will change.

To show AutoCAD in top left, do this: (1) move your cursor to AutoCAD (2) click an object in AutoCAD (select an object then deselect it). Since you have forced your curser to be 'active' by selecting an object, the top left should now show AutoCAD.

I know that the CadMouse is "program sensitive"...I also use SolidWorks. While working in AutoCAD, after clicking on an object and deselecting it, when I call up the CadMouse Wireless properties by pressing the "X" on the Cadmouse I get this...

Bob_Rhea_PCB_1-1755014498507.png

Then I click on "Properties..."

and I get this...

Bob_Rhea_PCB_0-1755014248258.png

Notice that the window says Default-S80 rather than AutoCAD. After I click on the "Buttons" sub-menu button

I get this...

Bob_Rhea_PCB_2-1755014763836.png

Notice that I've programmed the "Forward" and "Backwards" buttons, and they are set to AutoCAD "Zoom" commands. The zoom commands usually work fine. However, sometimes they don't work and the buttons still show these commands as being the Zoom commands. I can change the mouse speed in the CadMouse main menu, and  sometimes they start working again.

As I'm typing this reply, I switched back to AutoCAD and I'm realizing that the CadMouse buttons work on some open drawings, and not on other open drawings. More randomness.

The computer I'm using right now is furnished to me by the government. I DON'T have this problem on my company computer...go figure. When using AutoCAD on my company computer, the popup window for the CadMouse shows AutoCAD as the current program, and is correct.

Hope this helps. Random problems are the worst!

Hi @Bob_Rhea_PCB

Do you have the mouse driver from 3D Connexion installed? If you are working on a 'government' computer, you might be able to download the driver but you may also be prevented from installing that driver without permission.

Also, try to EXPORT SETTINGS from your company computer. Save the settings on a thumb drive, then back in your government computer, re-insert the thumb drive and click IMPORT SETTINGS. If you already have the correct mouse driver, then saving (exporting) your SETTINGS on a thumb drive then adding those saved SETTINGS back in (importing) while be easy.

Your government computer may also have restrictions on it which might prevent you from installing the 3D Connexion Driver. If it's restricted, you'll need to contact the government's IT Dept. and have them install the driver using their admin rights and passcode.

<<In addition to government IT departments, private businesses also prevent the installation of any program or driver that are not whitelisted. This helps to prevent ransomware($$$) from being installed by users who unknowingly click anything masquerading as a legit button, such as buttons in phishing emails and on fake websites with official-looking counterfeit logos recreated by anyone with a basic understanding of plain vanilla AutoCAD. Also, individual users cannot circumvent, nor should they try, to circumvent the security measures established the computer owners (will your user name get flagged?). Don't take a chance. Don't be that guy who shuts down the entire system for innocent, rule abiding users.>>
