probably started with version 1, was a nice hard cover book, didn't take long for them to figure out they weren't charging enough for their software to also supply a manual with it, heck why even supply cd's for downloading new versions those things cost oh maybe a penny each.
Used to be a book back in V1, then it came on the CD when books stopped being printed, now they are online from Autodesk but mostly from others and all over YouTube.
