Trying to get a block to follow a line

Afternoon all,

I have an odd question (maybe).

I current use AutoCAD LT 2018 and have a bit of a problem with a block I use regularly.

Basically I have block, it has a base point and a rotate command on it.

Both work fine.

I move the block into position and can rotate as required.

The things is, is there away that If I  position onto a line I'd like to that block to align and follow the line.

Another way explaining it is like a scalextric track. You out the car (BLOCK) into the slot of the track (LINE) and as long as it stays on the track it follow the slot (LINE).

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Would MEASURE work for you?  I'm not sure if it is available in LT or not.

or could you make the block dynamic and assign an alignment parameter to it?

Hi Chris,

Thanks for your reply 🙂

measure would locate the block onto the line, but I want to basically slide the block along the line.

I'm not to sure how Dynamic blocks and alignment parametrs work?

Cheers

I don't have LT, but if INSERTing Blocks works similarly to full AutoCAD....

Is there an INSERT dialog box, with a Rotation area, and a "Specify On-screen" pick-box that is not checked?  That would put it in always at the rotation angle shown, presumably the initial default value of 0.  If you check that box:

InsertRotation.png

it will ask you for a Rotation during every INSERTion, and you can Object-Snap to an ENDpoint or perhaps [depending on where along it you put the base point] the MIDpoint of the Line to specify the rotation.

Or am I misunderstanding?

Try this tutorial:

or post the block and perhaps someone can modify it for you.
