Trouble with shift key for ortho mode

Hi all!

I have  trouble, with my shift key. I've just get a new machine and when i installed autocad 2013 the shift key shouldn't want to switch the ortho mode. In the temporary shrt keys there is the description, but didn't work. On my previous machine it worked perfectly. I've tried lot of solution, but they didn't work. Does anyone know the solution?

Thanks,

Máté

There is a slight time-lag for some users after they press down SHIFT-key, could that be it?
What's different about the new PC from the old one?

My previous laptop is an MSI cx-623 with windows 7. The new one is better in performance, but it runs with windows 8.1, because windows 7 is not supported very well, and drivers too. It is a levono z50-70. All of hem have intel chipset, and nvidia gpu, bu it is better of course. I don't understand this slight time-lag, what it means? My first idea is that, to wait a ittle when i hold shif key, but nothng happend.

R2013 is not supported in Win8.1, but is supported in Win7.

Does your new laptop map SHIFT o do something else? or you must press a hotkey to activate it?
Or is there a key logger running in the background as a system service? Or a Norton product like Constant Guard installed?

Walk me through a process where it fails so that I can replicate: do it on screen at your end first to ensure it fails. List every command, click, button hold, how long you hold anything down for etc.

I've reseted autocad 2013 first, if i made some mistakes.

Launch autocad 2013

Type: TEMPOVERRIDES -> Enter -> Command line shows: Enter new value for Tempoverride <1> -> Type 1 ->enter -> try a line command, ->pick to a random point, then move mouse while i hold shift key -> line didn’t go to orto mode.

Other trying: Type: cui -> enter –>new tab showing: Costumize user interface. Serch keybord shortcuts, click on it. -> search Toggles Orthogonal Mode, see keys SHIFT, macro 1: ^P'_.orthomode $M=$(if,$(and,$(getvar,orthomode),1),$(-,$(getvar,orthomode),1),$(+,$(getvar,orthomode),1)) -> Try to redefine to shift -> Double click ont he column Keys and press delete, then SHIFT. It shows key is shift. -> Press OK. -> try line to get ortho mode the same way like previous, nothing happening.

Also seeing F8 is the key of Toggles Orthogonal Mode, and it is  working, but shift is not.

Also see Ctrl + L is ortho mode on/off and it is working...

Why are you redefining the shift key temp override in CUI? OOTB installation here, no migration from an older AutoCAD. Were you reading this post?http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/autocad-2010-2011-2012/shift-key-and-ortho-lock/td-p/2724361

Are you all by chance running an Enterprise CUI?

I can't replicate the issue in Win7: I don't have Win8.1 to test either.

Does Shift key work for other AutoCAD specific functions?

ie SHIFT within TRIM should switch to EXTEND, and SHIFT within EXTEND should switch to TRIM.

also, SHIFT within FILLET command should fillet with a zero radius regardless of the actual radius specified.

I reinstalled autocad, but all the thing what you gave me not working unfortunatelly. I haven't got an idea what will be the problem, maybe windows 8.1 or my hardware...

I get a new autocad 2015, and thought it solves the problem, but it is the same. I tried all the advices and it won't worked. Then I tried to override the override key to SHIFT+Í (i am hungarian, and I have a hungarian keyboard and autocad) and it is working. I don't know how, but it is working. Also if someone knows what is the main problem please write to me, or anythig, that works.

drwuki - when you go into the CUI, Keyboard Shortcuts, be sure to go into the Temporary Override Keys and varify that Toggles Orthogonal Mode is there and is set to Shift.  Also, don't type SHIFT, pick on the area to define the key, then pick on the ..., finally place your cursor there and press the Shift key.

Also, make sure the Caps Lock is off while doing the above.

I have the same problem over the temp ortho mode using shift key, I'm running AutoCAD 2016 x64 on windows 10, i checked the tempoverrides its set to 1 and i also tried changing the macro setting for the shift key but still didn't work. I attached my current setting for keyboard shortcuts. i changed all the 1's in the down key to 0's in the up key, still didn't work, i don't know if this is the right macro for 2016 as i found this solution in an AutoCAD 2010/11/12 board discussion.

I have the same working environment as you, and the same settings. Nothing seems to be working.

We need AutoDesk to come to the rescue
