Hi Mates..

Im a Gis specialist and facing an issue with cad to gis conversion for this particular files..

This cad file has layer names as " DI line , DI text and old Line" ..

I have exported this data to GIS succesfully but i have been failing to get the exact dimensions of the lines attach to each..

I came to transfer tag to values is the solution , any one can share steps or process to perform it

Please find the attached drawing

Any ideas

Thanks

Hi,

>> issue with cad to gis conversion

Do you have Map3D or Civil3D ... or how did you export your data to a GIS system?
Which GIS-system are you using?

>> layer names as " DI line , DI text and old Line"

Layer "DI line" does not exist, layer "DI-LINE" is empty, only "D.I LINE" has polylines with widths

Layer "old Line" does not exist

Which objects exactly are not meant?

>> failing to get the exact dimensions of the lines

What are the exact dimensions? Are you referring the pipe diameters or anything more?

As far as I can see the diameter can be exported by evaluating the polyline-width property, no need to read any text.

>> I came to transfer tag to values is the solution

Sorry, I don't understand this "transfer tag to values", can you elaborate this please?

Thanks for your reply..

I have opened the drawing into ArcGis software and i have selected only the pipeline and then exported the desired layer which is D.I Line as shown in the screenshot..

I need this layer in shape file and succesfully created but failing to get pipe diameters..

I came to know that before GIs step , I need to Convert tag to text then process in GIS for this type of drawing and only cad specialist can help in this case

Short demo by someone on coversion in gis

Hi,

>> I have opened the drawing into ArcGis software

If you want to learn the handling of importing a CAD-file in ArcGIS you'll need to ask in the ArcGIS-forum.

The most easy way would be if you have access to AutoCAD Map 3D or Autodesk Civil 3D ... do you have access to any of that programs? That would give you the option to export to SHP and export the polyline-width (replacement for the pipe diameter) too (and assigning the geographic coordinate system to the geometry).

>> I need to Convert tag to text

Sorry that I don't know what is "tag" for you.

Hi,

maybe that helps: I have attached an exported ZIP-file from the polylines with their polyline-global width, which I guess is the diameter in unit Meter.

However, please take care, the one who created that data, broke the lines for labeling (which is technically bad), so you need to connect these lines manually:

Hi,

>> Could u please mention the process steps

Is the SHP I have attached to my previous message the result you are looking for?
Just to prevent to create a video that does not show what you need.

The command I used was _MAPEXPORT, to create a SHP, type lines, with an attribute WIDTH based on the polyline-globalwidth. Before that I selected all polylines on that one line-layer that are red (the outline for the labels interrupting the line) and moved them to a different layer to prevent that they are exported as pipes.
