In my dimension styles Im trying to make the dimension text bold, but I cant seem to do that. Any idea on how to achieve that without changing the light weight for dims? I just need the text bold as a default.

DIMSTYLE uses your STYLE settings: looks like you need to create a custom bold-only text style to use, if manually editing the one of few dimensions to be bold in the editor as an override is not an option.

With a TrueType font, changing the [I assume you mean] line weight of the Dimension won't have any effect anyway.  If you use a Style that uses a .SHX font, and if you use color-based lineweights in plotting, you can set the color of the Text separately from the other parts, so you can make only the Text bolder, and with many more choices of boldness [i.e. lineweight] than you get with a TTF font that has a bold choice.
