System variable for model space background color

I want to change the background color for the model space and I find lots of help on how to do it by the GUI but there are never any reference links for the system variable. I know it exists because I have found it once before but I didn't think it would be this hard to find it again.

The modelspace backgroundcolor is not saved as system variable, it's a registry setting, also stored in the profile-ARG if you export the profile.

You also have to differentiate between the modelspace background colors for "2D-Modelspace", "3D parallel projection" and "3D perspective projection" (besides of other background colors for layout, block-editor, ...)

The only thing I can imagine that you have found is a tool in LISP or VBA (or apps using other API's) that are using the API to change the setting.
