Switching between DWGs defaults to Layout tab; AutoCAD 2022

Only today this started but, when I switch between two open DWGs, they both open in the Layout tab by default. I leave one DWG in the Model tab to do something like a COPYBASE from the second DWG and come back to the first DWG to paste the object(s) in the Model space, but it's now in the Layout tab.

The only change I can think of is on Friday I changed the following variables, to get my Save As dialog box to show properly, as per this forum post:

FILEDIA: 1

CMDDIA: 1

ATTDIA: 1

This variable changes is something I've had to do before so I'm guessing it's some sort of profile setting my job's IT set up that gets reset now and then, which is why I've had to do it multiple times.

Any thoughts on where I'm going wrong and/or what I'm not seeing?

Thanks!

How are you "switching between" the two files please? Be very detailed so folks over here can follow along.
Also confirm your AutoCAD year version update level and your OS please.

Another question if I may: have you restarted your computer yet?
