Hello!

 

Please help! I'm using Autocad 2017. 

 

I cannot seem to get SWEEP to work property when I try to use both ALIGNMENT and SCALE options within the sweep command. 

 

Here's what's happening:

So basically you see me try SWEEP with alignment only, and it works, Then SWEEP with scale only which works, and then I try both together and get the following error: 

model operation error: can't locate profile on rail.

 

 

ALTERNATIVELY, if someone knows of a simple way to get from the larger cylinder to the smaller cylinder, I would also be interested in that. I just want to connect the larger one , taper down to the smaller one. I figure SWEEP is the way to go. Just don't understand why it works individually but can't use both SCALE and ALIGNMENT together.

Hi @Anonymous,

 

I see that you are visiting as a new member. Welcome to the Autodesk Community! 

I haven't ever tried Alignment and Scale in a sweep. If I were to connect the two pipes I would use a loft between the two.

When I did this with a sweep, I was able to use alignment and scale together.

Can you attach a sample of your drawing so i can see if I am able to perform this in it?

Thanks John.

How would I go about using Loft to connect the two cylinders? I'll give it a shot. It's quite possible I am doing things the hard way!

Hi @Anonymous (love the name BTW)

 

I made a quick video to show the way I used loft to join the cylinders. I basically create a circle at the end of each cylinder, type LOFT, select the two circles and the connection is created.

There is the command XEDGES which will find those circles for the loft.  Removes the chance for drawing errors when drawing the circles.
