strange Error Message when opening a drawing

Whenever I open a certain drawing, I get an strange error message, that I believe is from AutoCAD.  I am using AutoCAD 2018 to open a moderate sized architectural type drawing with lots of layers and hatch patterns.  The error message window is titled "Associative Network Evaluation Error".  The message states "The object cannot be resolved or value limit has been exceeded".  In smaller print the message goes on to say "Inconsistent associative objects may display geometry and grips incorrectly and update in unexpected ways when edited.  You can undo to restore the associative object to its previous state".

This message sounds to me as though a hatch pattern was created with an associated boundary and the boundary has been deleted.

Does anyone have a suggestion regarding how to find the object causing the error message?  The drawing seems to be behaving normally.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Hi,

are there locked layers in the drawing?

If yes, unlock all layers, save - close - reopen the drawing ... did that help?

If not can you upload such a dwg-file so we can test this on our systems?

Alfred,

I tried unlocking all of the layers, saved the file, and then re-opened the file.  With all layers unlocked I did not get the error message. I then locked all the layers and the error message returned.  Your suggestion seems to be touching upon the problem.  Can you suggest a next step to identify the problem?

Hi,

Let us know which product you really have 😉

I guess you are using Civil 3D and not plain AutoCAD, is that correct?

Then identify which version of Civil 3D you are working with or the creator of that drawing was working with. Maybe we can then find some options to get rid of that message. For now I don't know really how to play with that because I have not seen that message and I don't have data which shows that message.

All,

Through time demanding brute force methods I was able to identify the object that was causing my error message.  It turns out that the message was being generated by a Polar Array object that I had created.  I deleted the object and the error went away.  Then I re-created the Polar Array and the message came back.  Admittedly, I don't use the Polar Array command much and I was probably doing something wrong.

Today, I tried to create the Polar Array again.  I paid close attention to the prompts and the array worked without generating any further error messages.

So, why the error message was so strange I cannot say, but the cause has been identified.  Autodesk may want to look into that object and make any error messages more clear as to the cause.
