Slow properties window in AutoCAD 2021

Since I changed to AutoCAD 2021 the floating properties window is very slow. When I click on an entity in the model space the "filling" or rebuild of the properties window needs about one second. In that time no other action is possible. So it slows down the workfloat if the properties window is open. As I also have this problem in 3dsMAX with some VRay windows  I think it is a graphics driver problem. I tried also the previous driver with no succes.  Who has similar experiences?

Hi,

I suggest to try the follow :

  • Turn On / Off hardware acceleration from GRAPHICSCONFIG command .
  • Try to make your Properties palette Autohide or while it's opened try to collapse some pane sections.
  • Try to change your Windows theme .
  • Install Updates, Add-ons, and Enhancements

Thank you very much for your help! Tried your suggestions:

- Hardwareacceleration off doesn´t solve the problem, besides this the graphics quality ist not as good as with hardware acceleration

- as I want the properties pallette open all the times in my actual project and also all expanded this is no option for me, normally I use the quick properties, which I switched off for this drawing. Youré right, when I collapse some pane sections it is quicker. Also with simple entities as lines. But when I worked with the same drawing under Win7/AutoCAD 2019 I had a very quick response, even with measurements with it´s lots of properties

- may be that the Windows Theme is part of the problem. I use 3 Monitors with the screen management software DisplayFusion. No special theme, only a screen background image stretched above all 3 monitors. But again  - the same configuration I used with Win7 / AutoCAD 2019

- I will look for further updates too. As I also have some display related problems with 3dsMAX 2021 I wait for the next driver for the Quadro graphics cards and a new driver for the SpaceMouse Enterprise. As I agree with another user we think it could be related to this hardware config.

The other problems I mentioned are discussed here: https://forums.chaosgroup.com/forum/v-ray-for-3ds-max-forums/v-ray-for-3ds-max-problems/1099514-max-...

Have to tell now that it is much quicker now after I restarted Autocad with the quick properties switched off. May be, that this was the cause.

I've had this problem on every computer using every variant of Autocad for years, but have never found a solution other than turning off the properties dialogue.

Advance Steel is one of the worst. Selecting ~1000 objects on a Xeon/Quadro computer causes Autocad to lock up for a 9 seconds with the Properties open (or minimised/colapsed to the edge of screen), but it is instantly responsive with properties turned off.

@Craig.Brownlie Bet the problem is file content or size, not much else. If you wish for others to help, share a DWG that you have complete issues with nd explain how we can replicate it.

Yes, larger DWG files make the issue more apparent, but that doesn't mean the issue is not real. Using the same DWG file in the same Autocad session:

- with properties dialogue open on screen, autocad locks up for several seconds when selecting many objects

- with properties dialogue closed, autocad responds instantly when selecting many objects

@Craig.Brownlie Not seeing anything like that in our office, half the users are on R2021.1.1 and the other are on R2022.1, dual monitors, mix of laptops and desktops, some work in the office others are WFH, all on Win10Pro, files on a Winserver.

So how is your setup different?

There is an exceptionally long list of things you can try from Autodesk too, after you ensure R2021 is fully update, here is the list https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Graphi...

Had this problem after upgrading to a new PC.

Noticed it went away if I unplugged 2nd monitor.

So tried just swapping HDMI ports that they were plugged into and BINGO!

Fast and snappy performance again.

FYI - Graphics card : Geforce GTX

I noticed this issue after changing my Windows system app-specific graphics settings for Autocad.exe from default to High Performance.  I removed Autocad.exe from the list and the problem went away entirely.

I thought this issue might have been an Autocad Issue (system setting) but you noted it could be an Advance Steel issue.

Where did you make this change?  In the Task Manager?

In Windows 11:  Settings -> System -> Display -> Graphics.

I removed autocad.exe from the list.

Thanks for that Feedback.  Unfortunately, my system doesn't include the Autocad app in that list.

At the moment my research is pointing me to the Advance Steel 'Properties Palette' to be the culprit for causing the system to 'Lag'.  Still need to do some more research and testing to confirm but all signs so far are suggesting the 'Properties Palette' is causing the headaches.

I confirm the problem described above. I also like to have the "Properties" window turned on all the time and that's what's causing programm's lag. Regardless of the Autocad version. This is an obvious bug of the program.

Btw. The most frustrating thing for me is the standard answer on the forum, like reinstall/upgrade Autocad, buy a better and certified graphics card (which I unfortunately bought), you have too large a file etc.

I was informed by a colleague that their system did not have this issue.  This would indicate that there must be a system setting that stops the property palette from regenerating after each selection.  I have tried a few system variables but without success.  If I do find a solution I will be sure to post it on this forum.

I have this problem periodically since AutoCAD 14.  A restart does not work, but power cycle of the computer seems to work.  After reading this thread, I tried unplugging and re-plugging my USB-C docking station (where two monitors are connected).  This restored the performance of AutoCAD from nearly unusable to snappy.

Try installing Adobe Flash Player latest version.... This will solve the issue... AutoCAD has some dependency on flash player and it is also mentioned in System Requirements in AutoCAD 2017 version...

Hi! Have you been able to solve this problem with open properties? I've been suffering from it for a year now, this forum thread is the only place where I've been able to find people with a similar problem, but I still haven't been able to find a solution:(
