One of my employees was typing commands in the command box (yes, we are old-school here) in regular AutoCAD 2018. While typing a side panel popped up with the title Industry Model Explorer, and we cannot get rid of it. There isn't a close 'x' or anyway to drag it anywhere, when she puts the cursor on it there is just a red circle with the line through it.
This thing takes up a few inches of her screen and we really want it gone, any ideas?

That appears to be a feature of AutoCAD Map 3D.
Perhaps searching that forum (or moving the post there) would yield a solution.
This is the puzzling part....we don't own Map 3d. This is happening in just regular AutoCAD.
Can you post a screenshot?
I think this "thing" is essentially a palette. If you use the CUI command, do you see it listed in the Palettes group?
I can't explain how you have a Map 3D interface element....
But I suspect, also, that the user interface (workspace) is locked:
