Sharing AutoCAD Work between locations.

I have a basic question regarding the use of "regular" AutoCAD 2013 as compared to 2013 Mechanical.  The question is; our office is divided between Designers that use the regular AutoCAD edition and our Engineers that would like to use Mechanical (rather than the regular CAD).  Are there any conflicts resulting from sharing drawings between the two editions on AutoCAD (regular & Mechanical)?

If so, what would be the optimal method for these two departments to collaborate?

AutoCAD Mechanical can create objects that are not available in regular AutoCAD. You can install the object enabler to allow AutoCAD to see them, but it still will not be able to edit them. The mechanical users would have to use the exporttoautocad command to "explode" these objects so they could be edited with AutoCAD. Now if your mechanical users can refrain from using any of these advanced objects you should have little trouble going back and forth between them.

Other than ensuring that everyone is on the same AutoCAD release (2013-2014 or 2010-2011-2012 or 2007-2008-2009) and you never EVER open and save a file in the wrong AutoCAD release, there are no issues for the most part other than the fact that regular AutoCAD can't do many of the MECH features found in the MECH variants.

So ask yourself: who needs to actually use MECH functions, and who only wants to look at them?
