Sending Multiple Drawings with a single Xref folder location?

Good morning all!

I've been scouring the net and cant find a solution that works for me.

I've been tasked with going through 91 drawings for a single project and reallocating the xref locations as these have been changed since the original creation of the files (ugh! hehe).

These xrefs include PDF's and Images and many of them use the same image (signatures etc).

Is it possible for me to update all the file paths to one single source of xrefs and set them to relative so that when they are zipped i only have to send out each image once...

i.e. the files would look like this:

../Electrical/ <91 files>

../Xref/ <all xref files>

So no matter where those files are put it's as long as they stay in that order they'll work?

Many thanks,

Apparently I missed out a folder when testing the relative... it seems to be working as long as when i test is identical to what is actually there.. DUH!

Apologies guys.

While i'm here though, does anyone know why there is no bind option on pictures? (jpeg etc) And any free addons for binding PDFs?

AFAIK Images can't be bound because image files are not AutoCAD document format.

IMO it is a good idea if your request is submitted to Autodesk for the future release.

Hi,

look to the command _ETRANSMIT and within that dialog to the "transmittal setups" ... there you find the option for how to proceed with XRef's before packing all drawings to a zip and mail/send it.

Thanks Alfred.

Actually "binding" may be a confusion term in AutoCAD.

"Bind" may mean that binding xref files with the master dwg to a single file. It may also mean that packs all xrefs with the master dwg to a folder and keeps all xrefs as individual files.

If the OP asked for the earlier one, I can't see it happens. If it is the latter, your tip is certainly the answer.

BTW I tried the "_ETRANSMIT" but the box of "Bind external references" is greyed out and I can't turn it on. Any idea? Thanks.

Thanks, i'm aware of this; this option is pretty good for small quantities of files but not so great when doing 91.

Since i have to go in an relocate the xrefs on the drawings i may as well stick to the way i was doing it previously and sending a single xref folder with the drawing pack.

I appreciate your answer though.

Hi,

>> this option is pretty good for small quantities of files

Why? Directly in the first dialog of _ETRANSMIT you can add as many files as you want (to get them together for sending including XRef's).

Hi bonse,

Maybe this option will approach for you? >> "Place all files in one folder"?
