Select Similar command now requires extra step

Hello,

Up until a few weeks ago, entering the SELECTSIMILAR command in AutoCAD MEP 2017 with an object selected would automatically pick all similar objects, as it's supposed to do.

Now, after hitting the command with the object selected, it deselects anything I had selected and tells me to select an object.

It's just an extra step that I'm not used to after years of doing it a certain way, and ends up slowing me down. "First world problems", as they say...

I haven't changed any system variables that might cause the setting to change, so I'm not entirely sure if I somehow did this to myself on accident.

Anyone have an inkling as to what's going on?

Hi,

I suggest to set PICKFIRST value = 1 .

Thanks for the quick reply.

PICKFIRST is set to 1 (I didn't have to change this) and it hasn't resolved the issue.

in order to know the way you execute the command ...does this happened when right click the mouse and after select objects or via command line?

After selecting an object, I usually right-click, select similar. I get the same results via command line, though.

have you lately install any plug-in or lisps that it may cause this problem?

Nothing installed recently, this really just seemed to happen out of the blue.

I should note that after hitting the select similar option in the right-click menu, I get the AECSelectSimilar command executed instead. I don't know if there's a difference, or if it's what the problem is.

You are not running plain AutoCAD are you? This forum is for plain AutoCAD and AECSelectSimilar is from a vertical version.

PICKADD variable also needs to be set to 1.

I'll try posting there, then. Thanks for the advice. I've also tried setting PICKADD to 1, it was previously at 2. It didn't solve the issue, though. Beginning to wonder if it's just out of my hands.

Just started having this problem in 2021 after months of using it.  It doesn't happen in every drawing.
AutoCAD MEP 2021, pickfirst = 1, pickadd = 2.  happens during right click or SELECTSIMILAR. :'(

@bhackett if it "...It doesn't happen in every drawing..." then you will need to share a DWG with the problem and explain how we can all replicate it to find out.

BTW the MEP forum is over here my friend, we plain AutoCAD users (topic of this forum) may not be able to reproduce your issue possibly https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/autocad-mep/ct-p/2036

My file is doing the same thing, but it seems if you click on one object and hit enter, it will select all similar objects.
