hello,

i want to know how to scale a exisitng floor plan, basically one image below shows an overall scale of the floor plan at 1/800, and the second images shows the gross floor area  at 3,105(metersquare) so how do i scale it to the correct length ? if possible if you can show me a tutorial also in metric would be useful.

SCALE command, or ALIGN command with the scale sub-option.

But those are pretty pictures, not CAD files, so all you will get are very fuzzy useless pretty pictures instead of CAD content.

yh thanks

the problem is it just gives an overall scale of the floor plan how would i know what to dimensions it to, because it doesn't give a dimension of the length or width of the floor plan, would i just need to make one up,

its very hard finding a cad file for those floor plans i got this pdf file from detail magazine.

If [potentially a big if] you can rely on the indicated scale to be accurate as printed in the magazine [or if it's on a website, as you print it unscaled onto paper from there], then you should be able to get in the ballpark by putting scale to paper.  But in that example, you're not going to be able to get very precise about it.  You could at least check for approximate validity by using reference-scaling on the image in a CAD drawing to make it the "real" size that scaling on paper yields, and checking the sizes of some things that are fairly standard, such as the widths of most of the doors.

all i want to do is scale the drawing to a correct length so i would know the sizes of the rooms etc so i can then use these sizes of rooms etc to create my own floor plan so i can understand a how big a dance studio is for example

To scale anything, you must know an actual dimension on the object first. if you don't, you cannot scale anything properly. Especially an image file.
AutoCAD is not an image file editor.

There is no easy way: you have to know an actual dimension on that plan is true, then use SCALE command to get close enough.
But AutoCAD is not an image file editor.

For MAC users, you need to be asking in the MAC forum, not the Windows forum. The MAC forum has a lot of missing commands from the Windows version. MAC forum is over here http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/autocad-for-mac/ct-p/3011

But AutoCAD is not an image file editor, even on a MAC.
