Scaled Drawing Is Too Large For Viewport

Scaled Drawing Is Too Large For Viewport

For the life of me, I cannot figure this viewport problem out.

*2017 AutoCad for Mac*

Model space page setup:

Printer: mine

Paper size: US letter

What to print: window (selected)

Scale: 1:1

Center on page

Paper space page setup:

Printer: mine

Paper size: US letter

What to print: layout

Scale: 1:1

Paper space:

Title block is in and the appropriate size to size of paper

Now the viewport!

In paper space:

Command: MV [make viewport]

Click and drag to make viewport

Entire model is now in the viewport

Select viewport> right click> properties> standard scale> drop down> 1/8"=1'-0"

And here's where I'm lost. The viewport indeed scales the drawing to 1/8". However, only a very small section of the drawing is shown in the viewport. When it scales it, it makes the drawing way bigger, not permitting the whole thing to fit in the viewport.

WTF am I doing wrong?!? I've been doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. I've officially gone insane. Someone, please help me.

My first thought is that you have a model that is large enough that it can't be shown in a small viewport, one that would fit on a 11x8.5 sheet.

How large of an area are you trying to show at 1/8"=1'-0"

Hi @Anonymous

I am happy to work through this issue with you. Is it possible to attach your file to a post? If not I can arrange for you to share it privately with me.

I suggest on youtr Layout, you start Page setup and configure the paper size, scale, plotter, and plot style. Then set it to be current. Then create a viewport (MVIEW) if you haven't done so already. stretch the viewport to make it as large as possible on your "paper"

Then double-click in the viewport and zoom extent. This is the largest that your model can be displayed at on this paper. You can then select a scale from the Scale list.

Please select the Accept as Solution button if my post solves your issue or answers your question.

I just discovered something that might help.

In model space my "zoom all" was way overdone showing my tiny drawing in the corner of a huge black space. After trying "everything" suggested online, including PURGE, I found 3 layers stubbornly hanging on when I knew they contained no drawing information. Still, these could not be deleted directly from the Layer Properties Manager. I discovered that these could still be deleted using the LAYDEL command. One at a time, I deleted each and with the last one gone (naturally) my "zoom all" returned a display that only included my drawing, edge to edge in my screen.
