''Scale objects from other drawings upon insert?" option to 'no'

Hi,

This question has been asked before but I didn't see a clear explanation as to why the above option when set to no doesn't seem to have any effect.

I have a block that is scaled upon insertion, undesirably. The problem wasn’t fixed by typing -DWGUNITS and changing the ''Scale objects from other drawings upon insert?" option to 'no'.

I understand setting up insunits, insunitsdefsource and insunitsdeftarget for when I want to scale inserted blocs. I also understand setting some of those variables to 0 (unitless) will stop the block being scaled. However, I would like to use the abvove mentioned option in -dwgunits for speed & convenience when I set up a drawing for with different drawing units, or at least understand why I shouldn't use it...

Many Thanks.

INSUNITS, explore it and its many subsets variables in HELP to address what you desire. If you did try these, please explain what you did and set, then post a example DWG files you are having issues with.

Make sure you understand how Dynamic Blocks are different if applicable too.

Hi, thanks for the reply, I'm not confused about Insunits.

The block is not annotative or dynamic. I created the block in a separate
drawing for trial purposes. It is a circle with a radius of 20mm, the
drawing units were set to mm via -dwgunits, and the drawing's insunits were
set to mm.

I created a block of this circle and then opened a new drawing and inserted
it into this drawing. I used it to help me understand how insunits etc,
work.

The question is, why doesn't the "no" option for "Scale objects from other
drawings upon insert?" stop the block from scaling when it is inserted ?
Does some other variable take precedence ? Or what is the reason for this
"Scale objects from other drawings upon insert? No" option?

Any light on this subject welcome.

We'd love to have access to your blocks and DWG files to test out the issues here, can you share?

Hi,
I've attached the file containing the 2 drawings I've used. I hope this is
correct, I am an Autocad novice and this is the first time I've tried to
send this type of file by email. If it doesn't work please let me know.
Drg1 is where the block, Trial1, was created and Drg2 is the drawing I
inserted it into.

I have also attached a word document that summarises my efforts to
understand out how this option (Scale other objects from other drawings
upon insert: Y/N) works. The table is not my idea, it comes from a
wonderful source (https://vanderworp.org/cad-insert-and-units/) describing
Insunits et al. I've just added the last column to the right to test out
this option 4 with Yes and No selected respectively.

Thankyou in advance,
Bill

Hi,

Has anyone had a chance to look at this ? It is something I'd like to get straight, as it seems pretty fundamental to the insert process. It's probably something pretty obvious but I can't discover what it is !
