Saving problems - Dropbox

Has anyone had issues getting and error message like this:

"One or more objects in this drawing cannot be saved to the specified format. The operation was not completed and no file was created"

I use dropbox and so do most of my clients. This just started happening a couple of days ago, and it happned on both of our ends at the same time. It happens with multiple files, not just one. I also tried to use a different machine, just to see if it was my autocad, and it happened there. Could this be a communication with Dropbox and Autocad? I have a huge amount of space in Dropbox. Any help is much appreciated.

Thank you!!

Hi,

>> Could this be a communication with Dropbox and Autocad?

Could be, my first question is: can you save it on your local file without getting that message?

If that happens only with specific files can you upload such a file? ... or does that happen with every file, also one created based in an original template and just one line drawn?

>> This just started happening a couple of days ago

What changed on your system within that time period, any updates or new installations?

If you save the file using the ".save" command, do you get the same error message?

IIRC, Dropbox saves to a local folder, and then synchs that local folder to the Dropbox servers.  It's a multi-step process, and drop box doesn't matter during the Save portion.

Look at possible problems with your local setupm space available on the local dropbox folder etc.

I also started having this problem in this past week- very irritiating and tried everything. And- have made no changes to anything on my computer at all, or to software.

However- it is for sure a Dropbox issue- I did not think of this but saw the suggestion here, and "paused synching"- and the problem went away entirely. Its not a drive size issue (have tons of space), and everything is on my drive here, but also in DB. So its weird- I wouldn't think that DB would get in the way between Acad saving a file and the hardrive- but it does. Confirmed.

I have no idea what the root problem is- but would guess that something happened with DB and how it works which is screwing things up?

At first I thought Audit and purging helped- but found that minutes later, the same error message appeared. In all  files- not just a single one. So- as with Meuhlebach- I have the same issue.

Time to contact DROPBOX for assistance then. Nothing you can do about it in AutoCAD.

Yes, I too have used the Audit command, and was able to save after that. However, the problem continued, so that is only a temporary solution. It seems like it's a dropbox issue. Trying to get in touch with them is as bad as getting in touch with Apple. Any other suggestions? Thanks so much.

Yes, same error message. Also, I get the same message when I do a 'save as'.

Thanks for the help. I saw your other posts on my other inquiries. I'm new to the forum, so I'm learning the ropes.

I used Windows 7. I use AutoCAD 2013LT.

I just asked the question in the DB forum/trouble shooting, but won't hold my breathe for a solution. I did notice an older post on their forum, that maybe this has something to do with tmp files, as some users also experienced it with Photoshop- I don't quite follow.

But of course, if I do get some sort of response and answer, I will post it here. I use a number of different programs, the only one that is having an issue is AutoCAD, and as DB is an essential ingredient to my workflow (and lots of other architects I know), it seems like appropriate to address it here (something even that AutoDesk should address directly with DB, if it is actually a common issue).

Do you have a local DB drive letter/folder on your PC that you drop files in, or are you literally uploading to it instead?

They do file versioning, on by default, I believe: find it, turn it off and see if your problem goes away.

I have a harddrive that AutoCAD saves to. Dropbox watches it for changes, and then uploads changes automatically, and without my doing anything. I have been doing it this way for years- works great, and  have changed nothing. So I don't think file versioning (do you mean keep older copies uploaded?) will be an a root problem, but I will look into it.

Oddly- I have not (in the last hour) had any error messages- and I switched the files I am working with to another project in another subdirectory. Same drive- but I wonder if there aren't some sort of hidden files or something that are in directories that I need to clean out.

Or it could be a file quirk that ironed itself out after your AUDIT fixes.
I can't replicate the problem in my DropBox folder, setup just like yours.

Hi, I too am having the same issues when saving and we also save our drawings to dropbox. Weirdly we have used it in this way for past 2 or so years without any issues but it cropped up from no-where last week and now it won't stop!

Have tried the Audit route, purge, saveas and still the same issues.

i've tried contacting our IT helpdesk but they say it is an Autocad issue. Can someone kindly confirm it is definitely a dropbox issue so that i can take the matter up again with my IT company?

many thanks.,

I recently started having the same problem with dropbox too.  The 1st time it happened was 7/30/15.  However, I save most of my drawings back to an older version of autocad so others who have older version of autocad can access them.  In my case the problem goes away if I save my drawings as version 2010 or newer.  If I save the drawing in 2010 it will then allow me to go back and do a save as in an even older version that I could not before. I have co-workers who can open the same drawing in dropbox that I am having trouble with and it works just fine for them.  As soon as I Pause Syncing with dropbox or work with the same drawing outside of dropbox the problem goes away.

It appears to me that it is a dropbox issue since I can work with the same drawing outside of dropbox with no issues so far.  However, it is odd that it’s just with the older versions of autocad for me.

I hope someone can find a fix for this because I have to do a lot of extra steps to get the same job done right now.

Same problem here, solved by saving to the latest version of Autocad.  Mine was set to save as 2004 so I didn't have issues with out of date arch and engs not having updated software.  When I save as and change to 2013 the problem went away.

I received an e-mail from Dropbox support today and they were able to give me a temporary fix. They made changes to my account, then I was able to “quit” uninstall dropbox, and reinstall version 3.6.9 from the link they provided. They said dropbox “should resume updating to the latest version within a month”. They say they have identified a bug in the current version and hope to have it resolved in the next update.

The fix is currently working smoothly and I am able to save files to older versions without any issues for the time being.

If you are still experiencing this issue and they have not contacted you already I would recommend contacting Dropbox customer support and try this fix.

Here are links to the dropbox forums regarding this issue as well

I was having this issue with LT 2016 files set to save as 2010 DWG files. I changed the file version to 2013 (the most current) and the problem ceased.

I am having the same exact problem and have had no changes to my system.  The problem first occurred about six months ago and was very infrequent.  At that time I searched and found the "AUDIT" solution and it worked fine at that time.  The problem is now that it has been occurring constantly for the last several weeks and "AUDIT" doesn't always work.  I just paused my dropbox and of course, my file saved fine.  I agree with a previous responder that Autodesk sould contact Dropbox.  This is a serious problem affecting many AutoCAD users.  Probably many more than are reporting here...

Your support would be greatly appreciated.
