Saving Error

Hello Guys,

I have an error when I trying to save drawings in AutoCAD and you can find the error message with the following attachment. So, actually this error is coming not for every drawings but for some drawings only. I mean the drawings that are making this issue has lot of external references and any of them cannot be deleted, because all those external references are required to complete my drawing. This issue had been promoted before in this forum by some person and few solutions had been given to him. But I tried them all and after that also I am facing the same issue. I even tried to repair as well as re install AutoCAD 2012 and after everything I done I am facing the same issue. Here what I done as solutions.

1. Checking for annotative hatches - Did not find

2. Using zoom command to zoom and pan command to pan

3. Clearing temporary files folder every time before opening the drawing

4. Flushing UNDO files

5. Repair AutoCAD

6. Performing a clean un installation and re install AutoCAD 2012

Even after above things I am facing my issue until this moment. I thought this is because I am working on a network. So, what I did, I copy all the files including external references to my Desktop and tried to perform a save. It also did not work. So please guys, pay your kind attention and valuable time toward my matter and give me a solution.

Thanks

PS: Please do not hesitate to ask any thing from me regarding this issue if you feel the details that I provided aren't enough to understand the issue.

Hi,

when you start AutoCAD, command _OPTIONS ==> tab "Files" ... there are some items pointing to TEMP folder.

  • Is that folder stored within your user-folder?
  • How many files exist in that folder?
  • Start Windows explorer, go to the Windows TEMP folder (type in %TEMP% in the address line of the Windows explorer, that brings you to this folder ... by default it is save to remove all the files in that folder)

These are the grabs of OPTION>>Files>>Temporary Files

And this is the "items deleted" temporary folder which I got by doing WINDOWS+R and "%temp%".

Hi,

thank you for your quick response and screenshots!

Are you in a company network which might have data amount restrictions for your %USERPROFILE% folder?

When AutoCAD crashes, do you always see the error "...disk full..."?

If you have the chance to login to your Windows with another user account and test AutoCAD in that context, do you get the same messages?

You welcome my friend.

As for your first question, there are no data restriction. In administrator account also and we are getting the same error.

As for your second question, Yes. I am getting the same error message.

Thirdly, we tried those files in a different computer which has same systems (windows 7 & AutoCAD 2012) and it also gave us the same error. Further more, in administrator account, we are getting the same issue in other computers like mine, which has windows 7 & AutoCAD 2012

Oh, if that is file dependent then my thoughts were totally wrong. Or does that happen with all files containing XRefs?

Any chance you can upload that file(s) so we can test it on our systems?

Always good to test in case of difficulties with dwg-files: start AutoCAD, create a new drawing, then start command _RECOVERALL and show your (defect) file...does that show errors?

I am sorry to say that we cannot get the acceptance from management to upload these files due to the client's rule and regulations. But the thing is there is a computer which has Windows 10 with AutoCAD 2012 and those drawings are working perfectly in that and there is a Windows 7 computer which has AutoCAD 2016 and in that also these files are working.

As you said I did _RECOVERALL command and select a file which cause me troubles and It gave me error (probably disk is full) in that procedure also. You can find the procedure in following pictures.

I would like to thank you a lot my friend for your support in this problem solving procedure..>>

Hi,

>> a computer which has Windows 10 with AutoCAD 2012

Windows 10 and AutoCAD 2012 are not supported, that does not mean that AutoCAD won't start, but issues like permissions, filesystem access and so are really critical.

>> and there is a Windows 7 computer which has AutoCAD 2016

>> and in that also these files are working

Mixed environment (AutoCAD 2012 and 2016 in your case) are never a good idea, especially when working with XRef's

I would start with:

  • create a new folder C:\TEMP ... give that folder full permissions (which it does not have when creating it
  • start AutoCAD/command _OPTIONS and change every folder pointing to your users-temp folder to this folder
  • copy the dwg-files from network to a local folder (e.g. C:\TEMP2)
  • disconnect your network, disable antivirus software
  • start AutoCAD and load the file(s) from C:\TEMP2

do you get the same issue again?

Yes my friend. I am facing the same issue.

Hi,

a short question:

Can you make a subfolder and a text file in that new or old temp folder? If you can, you have the full permission.

Regards Jürgen

I hope my tip helps. If so then give me kudos and mark the tip as a solution.
Thanks.

Hi Friend,

As you told I can create sub folder and text files in that new temporary folder and administrator gave me the full permission.

Do I understand this in the right manner.

Only when you use many XRefs this happend?

If so, it cought do with the XRefs temporary files. These temp files also stored in the temp folder. But no idea what to do.
