Same Sized Objects in different Scales

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi!

I might just be fundamentally misunderstanding basic concepts (I am a very new user) but I am unable to think of a good solution to this problem:

I have two drawings, one in scale 1:40 and one in 1:100. I want to print both in the same book, but have certain parts of the drawings (for example the legend and the north arrow [so: plines as well as text]) be the same absolute size so there is no discrepancy on paper. (I had thought just copy-pasting it from viewport to viewport might work, but it apparently copies the absolute size from the model and then rescales it in the new viewport.) How do I solve this without manually calculating the size I actually need?

Thanks,

Pierre

Also: sorry if this has already been discussed in other forum posts, I wasn't able to find actual comprehensible solutions.

Ideally i would make the drawings the same scale to avoid the issue. Short of that for a quick fix i might do something like use CHSPACE to move the elements to the paper space and then copy from the and paste into the other layout.

Thanks for your answer! When I first tried this, it worked like a charm. Then I went and changed the size of it a little and put it in chspace again and suddenly it was tiny and not the right size at all. Would I have needed to put it back out of chspace? Is that even possible?

Change space moves geometry from model space to paper space. Its not an additional 'space'.

When you move an item from model space to paper space (using CHSPACE) it should 'translate' the scales so that the appearance of the geometry is the same.

I'm not exactly sure what you have going on. Could you do a screen capture to help share the problem? ( https://knowledge.autodesk.com/community/screencast to get your screen capture )

Okay, so I have tried again and now it just seems too large. There's something I'm missing here...

Here's my screencast.

My goal was to have the exact size of North-Arrow in the second viewport as in the first.

(They only appear the same exact size at the beginning of the video because I have rescaled them manually just now. I would like to understand whats actually happening though, and be able to do it right next time)

Maybe the north arrow should be part of the template and a template for each scale/paper space so you wouldn't have to copy it from map to map?

But how do I make them the exact same size in two different paperspaces? If I create the thing in one paperspace and paste it into the other, the size of it changes.

But wouldn't I still need to create the template and make exactly sure the different objects are the perfect size in relation to the scale? But you're right, this is basically what I have ended up doing. It's just that they're not exactly the same size + it was kind of a hassle to do.

The paste at the end of your screencast is into model space. Make Paper space active before you do the paste.  The "cosmetic" graphics such as the north arrow and notes that you want to be sized independent of the scale of the model geometry should be in paper space.  I like to think of paper space as a piece of glass in front of the viewports into model space.

Thank you! This was my fundamental mistake. I had always instinctively associated the Layout-Area with "Paperspace". Everything works great now.
