Rotated MTEXT rotates to horizontal while editing.

While trying to edit rotated mtext, the text rotates back to horizontal, causing it to be very hard to edit. When I toggle the WYSIWYG option either way it fixes it temporarily in that edit session. When I end the edit, then edit again it's back to the same, until I toggle the WYSIWYG.

does this happen only in that specific dwg-file?

If you can reproduce this in a new file too please upload this new dwg-file with that text + start command _ABOUT and upload a screenshot of that dialog too.

Apparently this is only happening in the one dwg. I copied and pasted all of the model space objects into a new file, and it does not have the problem. I ran audit on the original file, and it found 0 errors. Is this a variable or setting, or just a bad file?

Well, in that case we would need that file to play with it (together with the screenshot of _ABOUT)

Could be a valid workaround for you, is it?

For now I would not know a variable that make something happen as you showed in your video.

But having the dwg-file we would have a chance to compare sysvars.

Hi,

what software was involved modifying this dwg-file? I get that message:

... which shows me that this file was not created by AutoCAD (or at least Autodesk products).

I also see that proxies exist in that dwg-file, are you using any applications on top of AutoCAD?

Then please try to start AutoCAD without loaded application.

Reason: I can't reproduce your issue (AutoCAD 2019.1.2), a double-click to this text does not rotate the letters.

I can't duplicate the issue in the drawing provided. If you WBLOCK the drawing to a new drawing does it still happen?

I get the dwg file from a Carlson user. This version of ACAD does not have it installed. The Carlson menus tend to take over.

Also just double clicking doesn't cause the problem, actually editing the text does.

WBLOCKing the entire dwg file out still has the same problem.

What I am having to do is - thaw all layers,  copy-paste model space objects to new file, copy-paste paper space objects to new file. But I have to reset my layer states in each viewport. But it works.

Scratch that fix. It comes back after doing the copy paste dance. It affects multileaders too, I have learned.

I just discovered it doesn't do it to all text styles (fonts?) Even when there are 2 styles in the same mtext, it will rotate one and leave the other alone?

Affects MTEXT, TEXT, MULTILEADERS so far that I've found.

Ask your Carlson user to "export to AutoCAD" for you and send you a clean file.
Or just EXPLODE that MTEXT since it appears you only use single-line text in most locations in your shared file: it fixes the problem.

If you every need TEXT to be MTEXT again, you can change it with the built-in tools.

Exploding doesn't work for me, at least. I will check on the "export to AutoCAD" from Carlson. I thought Carlson ran on top of ACAD?

So then we might have different updates installed?

Please start command _ABOUT and verify the exact version numbers with my screenshot:

If they are not the same then install the latest updates.

Well, then I have only 2 more ideas, one is to disable hardware acceleration and the other is to reset the AutoCAD profile.

What is strange on that: when we all are starting AutoCAD 2019.1.2 without any additional plugin and open your drawing only you have this issue. When copying the text to a new drawing then all is working well for you too.

So it's your system that seems to act different with that drawing, but we all are using the same (none plugin using) environment, the same version of AutoCAD, the same dwg-file ... that's why I only have the above 2 ideas (for now).

I had some similar "weird" editing experiences in rotated MTEXT editing in Civil 3D (2019). I tried numerous setting changes from this thread and others to no avail. Thought maybe it was a video driver or something. For some reason I tried typing "UCS" and just hitting enter on the default "World". We never mess with UCS. After having done that my editing behaved the way I thought it should. I tried undoing to before going through the UCS command but could not get it to act like it had been. Not sure what happened but it fixed it for me. Rechecked prior dwg states and the UCS was not rotated.

Just FYI

I have found out through other posts that this is caused by using an .shx font (with the "A") or non-TTF font.

Using TTF fonts (with the "T") works.

Still happening in ACAD 2020 and C3D 2020. Wish Autodesk would fix this.
